PS3 80 Gb and 160GB will be discounted by 100 $/euro in 2 weeks.(299, 399)
PS3 slim will launch with a $299 price tag around october when all of the old stock of fats are gone.
What do you think?

What do you think?
a 120gb-160gb for 399$
and a smaller 40 or 80? for 299$. without wifi.
and 80gb at 350$-299$ til stock run off.
would have the best impact.
I agree, it'll be exactly like what happened with the 60GB-->80GB transition.
I honestly cannot imagine Sony affording $299 these holidays. They are bleeding money from their games department as is. $349 is FAR more likely.
starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS
With the 80 > 60 transition, the 80gb system and the 60gb systems were sold concurrently for over four months before the 40gb sku came in as the low end model, facilitating the price cut. The 80gb took awhile to drop in price as the 60gbs were still around for a good bit of those four months. The price cut came when the 60gbs were finally depleted.
In the current scenario, the Slim is the replacement model, and the 80gb units are almost already gone. They'll get a price cut weeks before the Slim appears, and should be 90% depleted by the Slim's release. The Slim won't have to wait for them to be cleared out before release.
The Slim should immediately replace the 80gb SKU at $299. Pricing the model at $399 then dropping the price a mere 2 months later would only serve to confuse people, and I doubt Sony would do this. The Slim is their big push to regain marketshare. They wouldn't hinder it with something so stupid.

They probably won't remove wi-fi from any SKU. It's been the standard since near launch, and it would probably cost them more to design a second motherboard and produce two different motherboards simultaneously then they'd save by removing something as miniscule as wi-fi.
The only difference in SKUs from this point onward (if they still follow the dual SKU route, which I'm beginning to doubt) will be HDD size and a bundled game.

Bleeding money? All we know is that they made less than $56 million profit last quarter. We don't know if they are still bleeding money, and we don't know how much the Slim costs to produce.
What we DO know is that countless retailers across Europe have recieved word of an impending ps3 price cut to 299 Euros from 399. We also know that Sony has not revised their forecast of shipping 13 million ps3s this financial year. We also know that the ps3 has seen roughly 70% reduction in costs since launch (this figure most likely taking into account the cost of the Slim). Smells like $299 to me.
ps3 manufacturing costs has already been reduced by 70%

but what if manufacturing costs for a ps3 have significantly dropped, and they can afford to sell a ps3 for $299 mabey without any losses at all.
could be a possibility.
my guess the ps3 slim will have a $ price tag of $299 and a £ price tag of £249
im thinkin the spec for it will be as follows.
basically stripped down to make it cheaper.
a very good idea would be to have a slim as the entry model and as it is now shape as the premium model but with BC
so from a consumer standpoint, a $299 slim without the extra features would sell very very well, and a $399 model with bigger hardrive and full software BC would also do very well.
...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...
PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk
really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...
