Forums - Gaming - I wish more developers were like Bethesda

I wish more developers were like Bethsda.

Specifically in the area of post launch support with DLC.  Honestly, Oblivion and Fallout 3 have some of the best DLC out there.  Fallout 3 hasn't even been out a year and it has had 5 massive DLC's come out for it.  I have spent almost as much on DLC as I spent on the game, and I'm loving every minute of it because Bethesda makes it worth your money.

Bungie does pretty good with all their map packs, and a few other companies like epic do pretty well, but I would say the vast majority of developers suck at DLC.  Take Fable 2 and Mass effect for instance, their DLC's suck.  Fable 2's are just a plain rip off and mass effect had one tiny DLC and thats it.  Then their are games that nickle and dime you like little big planet (that games DLC drives me nuts).

So my question is... why can't developers be more like Bethesda?  It is obviously paying off for bethesda, they are making a butt load of money.  Their DLC is top notch and worth every penny... so why can't other developers do this?

because Zenimax is a huge company with an even larger budget

yeah, but there are all sorts of large companies with AAA games that don't get squat for DLC, like mass effect for instance.  Owned by EA, but sucks at DLC.  Or uncharted for PS3, that would of been an awesome game to get some DLC for, but Sony never gave us anything.  MGS4, Gears1, LO, Viva Pinata!!!  There are all sorts of oppurtunities out there and developers/publishers aren't even trying.

Honestly, if I really like the game, I'm going to get all the DLC for it, I'm sure I'm not the only one out there either.

I don't think it has anything to do with the resources of Zenimax that they release so much DLC.

Bethesda are just awesome in every way. Todd Howard is the best game developer in history.
They make so much content, spoiling their fans. Oblivion was already the largest game in history, and still they made so much DLC and a full expansion. And now Fallout 3.

I'm so excited that Bethesda are expanding (that is thanks to big Zenimax investments though), that they bought Splash Damage and id. Such concentration of talented people it's crazy. This collaboration will spit out AAA games.

Fallout 3 DLC
Elder Scrolls 5
Brink
Rage
Elder Scrolls Online
Doom 4
Fallout 4

DLC it's the worse thing they could do the gaming.
especially since many of the things already are on the discs, and it should been free.

Bethesda is better at DLC NOW than before. For anyone who doesn't remember there was indeed a time where Oblivion charged $2 for a horse skin.

@xoj
see I remember when the worst thing that companies could do to console gaming was having a HDD(not having the HDD) would cause having patches and sometimes buggy games. Of course people now over look that and find it acceptable. The bar moves. I still find patch fixes unacceptable of my console games.

DLC is the best thing that could happen to gaming. I know it sounds odd, but it's true. When you buy the game(if it's a bought model) then it must be a whole package. No silly $2 for costume colours. The add on pack must be noticible or really cheap for something noticible. The exrta income for an easier to develop expansion(mind you more work into making DLC doable) brings in more profit for the game, extends the life of the game which in turn keeps your interest for the next game.

Bethesda has learned what makes good DLC. kudos to them.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Elder scrolls online would be a mess due to glitchs.

I agree that the very very very few DLC items that are already on the disc should be free.  However, that is so minor and has only happened in like 4 or 5 games.  Are you telling me that if there was an awesome game that you played all the time you wouldn't want the developer to make more stuff for it to make it even more awesome?  you just want to play the game and be done with it?  DLC can be amazing, as Bethesda has shown us, which is the point of this thread.

Let's not forget the famous levelcap in Fallout 3 so you were more or less forced to get some DLC. Other than that bethesda rocks.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

They are second to none at dlc however i amire them but dont enjoy there games much!

Way to open for me and... Boring

I find there games are a jack of all traded and a master of none
