Forums - Gaming - Which nations have contributed the most to gaming?

I think the top three contributing nations over the years are uncontroversial:

- Japan

- USA

- UK

I think Japan has contributed the most. I was going to come in here and try and claim that the UK deserved second place (I'm very patriotic like that) but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that the USA definitely was second in line. I do think, however, that the UK deserves a reasonably close third.

What do you think? Do any other countries come close to these three in terms of contribution? If so, please make their case.

I'll start things off by making my own quick case for the UK:

Ocean Software (Loads of titles, but my favourite was Head Over Heels)
Psygnosis (Lemmings, Shadow of the Beast, Wipeout series)
Core Design (Tomb Raider, Heimdall 2 et al.)
Sensible software (Canon Fodder, the Sesnsible Series)
Free radical Design (Timesplitters)
Rockstar Games (GTA, Manhunt etc,)
Bullfrog (Syndicate, Populous, Theme Park,Theme Hospital, Dungeon Keeper)
Team 17 (Worms)
Codemasters (Dizzy, Micro Machines)
Rocksteady studios (Arkham asylum is looking quite good)
Kuju Entertainment (Now Headstrong Games - House of the Dead Overkill)
Freestyle games (the upcoming DJ Hero)
Millenium Interactive (Anyone remember James Pond?)
Lionhead studios (Black and white, Fable)
Media Molecule (Little Big Planet)
David Braben and Ian Bell (The ground-breaking "Elite")
Argonaut software (Starglider, Starfox on the SNES)
Creative Assembly (The Total War Series)
Sports Interactive (The Championship Manager Series)
Chris Sawyer's Rollercoaster Tycoon

And of course, the fantastic Rare: DKC, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Banjo Kazooie, killer Instinct, Diddy Kong Racing, Conker's bad fur day, Jet Force Gemini et al.

I'm sure there's much more to be said, but I'll leave it at that.

Easily Japan.

Second I guess would be America, mainly on a software front.

4 ≈ One

I wouldn't rule out America for Number 1. What with it creating videogames... and being the main driver of videogames up until the NES came out.

1. Japan
2. Japan
3. USA

What a shock to see those are the 3 biggest gaming markets! What a coincidence!

doesn't the Uk develop all the GTA games

Also i'm not sure everything the UK has done combined adds up to this... It's practically it's own cultural revolution.

Japan!

Isn't canada a huge videogame place? Doesn't EA have their headquarters there?
