Forums - Sales - The first 10-week sales of Monster Hunter 3- Predictions

TheSource's Japan Preview said that the 2nd week for Monster Hunter 3 managed only 125k, but there was a bundle shortage.

A deeper drop than I expected, but it's still over 100k. Maybe due to Obon next week, the drop won't be as large as it would've been in a "non-holiday" week.

Could be around that.

Meaning that it still has a chance to sell 1 million on the Wii and prove to 3rd parties that its big IP franchises CAN sell, right?

What's Obon?

Yes, it can still sell one million. However, it won't prove anything to 3rd parties. This game actually had effort put into it, and they don't want to waste their time doing that so their games can sell. It's better to have a 5th-string team make a mediocre game, then blame the consumers for its failure on the marketplace.

True, but what about DQX?  I'm sure that game will have a lot of effort put into it too.

I'm not saying that I'm hoping for a huge surge of 3rd party big IP titles, but I hope that those won't be the only two big major IPs the Wii will have.

TheSource's Japan Preview for this week says MH3 will be at 77k in the 3rd week, a mere 2k below what I had listed above. It will vary once the numbers come out, but I was almost spot on.

The main hope that I have from the portable games is that somehow the amazing legs will transfer over to the Wii - it doesn't seem too likely though.

True, although the game itself still managed to show on the Top Five for three weeks in a row. That's quite an achievement compared to many other 3rd party titles. I think this title is already showing some legs.

In this weeks Japan Preview, TheSource stated MH3's standalone version has sold 31k, With depleting stock for the other bundles, he said it may end at about 40k on the charts.

My Week 4 prediction is looking pretty good.
