10-year-old charged with rape
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

PHOENIX (AP) — A judge ordered a 10-year-old Liberian boy accused with three other boys of raping an 8-year-old girl in Phoenix to be detained while the case is investigated.

The boy wept in court Wednesday morning as the judge spoke to him during a hearing.

The handcuffed boy slouched in his oversized chair and was expressionless for most of the hearing.

But tears began pouring down his face and his sniffles could be heard over a courtroom microphone when juvenile court Judge Aimee Anderson told him she was proud of him for getting an award at the detention facility where he has been held.

Anderson granted prosecutors’ request to change two of the charges from sexual assault to sexual conduct. The boy also is charged with kidnapping.

Never trust Librarians. There silent but deadly!

ok that was bad lol

In case all you guys hadn't heard, the eight year old girl has been abandoned by her family because she 'shamed' them by being raped.

The entire thing is messed up, I don't know how much blame can be placed on the ten year old (some certainly) but a hell of a lot can be placed on the fourteen year old involved in this.

for a second I thought WesselWoggle found an even younger cousin.... >_> carry on!

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

I don't see any problem with any of these "Children" being charged and/or convicted with but I do wonder what you can actually do with them ...

I'm of the opinion that the younger a person is the more likely it is that you can have an impact on preventing future crimes. The problem is that these "Children" are obviously not in a family which can adequately give them moral, ethical and empathetic values that are in line with our culture, and juvenile detention facilities and foster care seems to be about the same.

As for the girl being shunned, this is actually an expected outcome and it isn't as bad as it could have been. (Primarily) in Islamic nations there is a belief that if a girl has sex outside of marriage she is dishonoring her family, and this even goes to the extreme level of assuming that a woman did something to encourage being raped. Because we have high levels of immigration from these Islamic nations, and most of the immigrants are living in culturally uniform communities, a large portion of the population can live in our countries without ever abandoning the values of their homeland.

@HS. It is improving though and you would hope that Liberia would be one where it was improving fast. I think the president of Liberia is an anti-rape campaigner.
