Forums - Sales - Monster Hunter 3 first week numbers and Wii sales

I'm not happy. I wanted sales to remain in the 30K field.

Now we won't see a pricecut anytime soon. Hope it drops hugely next week. A pricedrop is far more important than a 4~5 weeks boost.

Appealing games do much more in the long run for a console's momentum than price cuts. A price cut is what happens when you're failing to maintain value, which is a bad sign.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Monster Wii numbers

Currently playing on PS3: God of War III

Currently playing on Xbox360: Final Fantasy XIII

Currently playing on NDS: Chrono Trigger

Great sales! For comparison according to Famitsu:

With two days of sales MH3 583 k
Lifetime sales of MH2 (excluding best of release) 576 k

So MH3 is already the best selling console MH game and this with just two days of sale! Now it´s gonna be exciting to see what kind of legs the game will have and to what degree hardware will keep up. Will MH3 reach millionselling status? I think so but only time will tell.

One thing is for sure though, let´s hope that the annoying talk about thirdparties not being able to sell on Wii will stop. It´s been proven wrong once and for all. With a big title, good marketing and genuine work put behind a game, a title like this sells very well for Wii, possibly better than it would have been able to sell on PS3.

I don't understand what you mean by this.. Do you mean that a pricedrop resulting in a long term boost to sales is more important than a smaller boost due to the launch of a AAA title?

Value creation is the most important thing. Value creation for consumers through new software is more important than value creation through pricecuts and value creation for Nintendo through profits is more important than marketshare.

Wow, I'm impressed by this hardware boost, especially after reading the Japan preview which was also indicating great numbers, but not that impressive. Of course it will be very interesting to see now how the hardware sales in the following weeks.

Currently Playing: Skies of Arcadia Legends (GC), Dragon Quest IV (DS)

Last Game beaten: The Rub Rabbits(DS)

to be fair the PSP versions of MH probably increased the appeal of the franchise.

This is fantastic. Actually put some effort into it and it actually sells

02. [NDS] Dragon Quest IX (Square Enix) - 172,000 / 3,390,230

As I expected Dragon Quest IX is already showing good legs for a very frontloaded franchise and genre. Thanks to Obon 4 million is almost a lock.

WOw these are some sexy numbers! And it sold so much only in 2 days, it will easily crack a million, and who knows maybe the game will become such hit as the PSP versions. It will be interesting to see what will be the second week drop. Soo... hardcore games can sell on the Wii?

Nice sales for the Wii as well, hopefully MH and WSR can sustain some nice numbers in Japan.

Yep you´re absolutely right about that and I still don´t think that MH3 will match the PSP versions since Japan is very much into portables at the moment and MH seems to fit portables better than consoles when it comes to sales but I wanted to compare the console MH´s because of two reasons, first to show that thirdparties can sell on Wii (which many has claimed was not the case) and secondly that MH3 easily beat the earlier consoleversions (again something which some refused to believe would happen).

If MH3 reaches one million in sales I will view the game as a huge hit since it´s very hard for consolegames these days to reach half a million in sales never mind a million.
