The orginal AOE is very old so even adding some of the features of AOE2, 3 & Mythology would help (forts, unique units to each civ, battle formations, land trade routes, Wonders that actually have a purpose). The problem is that the RTS genre is getting a little stale so its difficult to say what else would be a worthy addition. Maybe have a 2nd campaign mode more like Total War or Rise of Nations as well as the story mode.

Yes, remake of Age of Empires! I like Age of Empires II more, but that's an even better reason to remake the original and improve it to perfection, because it has a great setting and really sweet civilizations.
