Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft and their dang hardware!

I can tell you a couple of things, off the top of my head. The fat ps2 had 2 really long screws holding the case on, they were in the front (nearest the disc drive) the rest were around 1/2" long. There were 2 different types of screws holding the disc drive down, 2 with a large head (these were silver) and 2 little tiny headed bastards (these were black and I could NEVER find them when I was putting the thing back together). I know this because I had to take them apart to fix the DRE and drive problems all the time. And I had to buy 3 total because the fix eventually stopped working. But you know what? I didn't care, I just had to finish killing Jecht, the rat-bastardest end boss ever. It was all about the games, just like the 360 is for me now. Except no RROD yet for me. **Knocks on wood**

why still are people comparing the ps1 and ps2 with 360
ps1 have problems, but then sony fixed those and it got redesigned, it was their first console.
then the ps2 had a lens problems. fixed in less than year.
my ps2 bought 2003 still works now.
and now the 360 have all of RROD E74 and scratch discs and still does now, only it happens less than monstrous 33% it had at launch .
and the ps1 and ps2 are not the ones competing with the 360, the ps3 and the Wii are, and both of them don't have major problems.
so microsoft tough luck, being first cost them, and it's microsoft second console?
why this happen?
first microsoft it's not a hardware console, never was or never will a good one especially compared to nintendo sony panasonic or even own market neighbor apple(i dislike their ipod built quality though).
second they try to launch first, by doing so they skip some quality control testing, they did enough to pass FCC = not being dangerous.
but not for quality control of the device.
sony did the same mistake with the ps1 and the ps2, tough luck microsoft, they learn their third time.

Alright am I the only one who has owned virtually every platform and is only now having a problem with one?

I was always a Nintendo man myself. I always bought Sony's platforms two or three years into the cycles. This may be why I never bumped into a crappy Sony console. I bought my PSP last year in early half of the year and it has been fine till now. I am just pissed because Microsoft stated the Falcon chipset was supposed to be the fix for the 360. I remember hearing it was the answer to all the 360's problems.

I bought my 360 in 2007, the first of the Elites. I bought it launch day expecting the hardware to be solid and fixed of all the problems the origional 360 had. But what do you know , I get the same RROD that all the prior consoles got. I paid 650$ for my 360 and the dang thing still Red Ringed on me.

Now I have to send my 360 in and I hear the fixed console only gets a 3-month warranty. I don't trust Microsoft anymore. You'd think that years after launch they would have fixed all the bugs. So far people on this site seem to complain about launch consoles. But Sony and Sega and even in the rare case Nintendo. All three of them worked the bugs out and worked past the hardware problems!

If you buy a PSP today, you likely won't get dead pixels. If you buy a PS2 you won't have DRE problems. If you buy any Nintendo console, you won't see any problems. But you buy a 360 and still have RROD.

I hope next generation that Microsoft fixes these hardware melfunctions before releasing the danged hardware!

LOL. Do you have real link for your ">>>>>" initial post? please paste PS1 and PS2 failure rates and the official xbox 360 failure rate and show that one is greater than the other... I didn't think so.

You're just being a fanboy + 1 as usual...

360's failure rate is 32%, just google it and you'll find it. PS2 sold 138 million and lets say 3 million PS2s died (probably much less, but still...) that's much less than 15%. PS1 sold 102 million and lets say 1.5 million PS1s died. Its probably under 10%.

So, 360's failure rate >>>>> PS1 and PS2 failure rate. Face it.

Also the diffrence between PS1&PS2 and 360 is that Sony fixed their hardware problem within a year while RROD is still going on after 4 years.

Lol.. There are barely any reports of Jaspers with RROD or E74.. That 30+ failure rate is BS right now. It has dropped significantly. There are no numbers yet though, since Jasper just came out.

My friend dropped his original Xbox down the stairs and it still worked. I thought the Original Xbox was pretty damn good as far as reliability goes.

I agree with this. The original xbox could take quite a beating!

No offence but everyone said the same thing about the Falcon. Everyone said the Elite fixed the problems with the origional 360. Heck thats why I bought the Elite to begin with. I thought Microsoft had worked all the bugs out and that the Elite would be a sturdy and reliable console. But not too long after I bought mine a friends Elite died. My Elite lasted 2 years but my uncles lasted less then a year and my friends lasted about a year. However I played my 360 less then any of them did.

If they replace my hardware like many say Microsoft does. Just replacing the unit then I hope I get a Jasper. But I have no faith in Microsoft's hardware anymore. I highly doubt I'll buy the next X-Box unless their is a seriously good warranty. The 3 year warranty has protected me this time, I hope that my new unit never RROD's considering that Microsoft only gives you a 3 month warranty with the repaired console. My uncle just got his back and he's worried because it says 3 month warranty but it took his longer then 3 months to Red Ring!

Exactly how is it four years after launch that 360's still E74 or Red Ring? These problems should have been fixed along time ago. None of my prior consoles broke down on me. The fact that any of the new Jaspers RROD or E74 is enough evidance that Microsoft really hasn't improved the quality of its hardware. I want my consoles to last me 10+ years at least not bugger up.

I hope Microsoft's next X-Box doesn't share the same problem. I hope they test it well enough to make sure the hardware won't Red Ring! Here's hoping the quality of X-Box products increases next Gen. But for now 360's seem to be a pile of shit, I really hope my replacement doesn't Red Ring. I'd hate to go through this proccess again!
