Forums - General Discussion - Music that speaks to you

I love that song God Moves over the face of the Waters by Moby, it was great in the Movie Heat. I would tell you how it was used but that would ruin the plot for those who havent seen it.

"Cambodia" by Kim Wilde
"Coward of the county" by Kenny Rogers
a lot of Swedish stuff

'Brothers' by Brand New. Me and my bro have built up a pretty strong relationship over the last couple of years, this song just reminds me of him, he's a legend. Also just about any other song from brand new speaks to me, i love their songs, lyrics, music, whatever

Jawbreaker, In Sadding Around

Sleeping off the last five years takes another five.
Recovery in lieu of being here right now.
When I throw myself at your feet,
You know it's to be walked on.
We're breaking up every single night.
If I had a choice don't you think I'd make it?
I lost my voice. Hope I didn't break it.
Little demons by my bed whisper secrets.
The kind you never hear.
I dip my toe in this cold, cold life.
I want to dive but I can't find your feet.
You with a view so unlike my own.
I'm trying on your eyes.
So I let go, fall to the ground.
It's a long way down again.
Petty cons keep peeling back my ears.
We make plans.
Collaborate and give to you
my better half.
Until now just dead weight,
A prisoner of doubt.
In a cell we kiss and tell all our keepsakes.
Sore, hit the floor.
Got my first glimpse of the sky.
The stars were on your side.
Who would've thunk
the thirteenth fell on Friday?
I say hello and it's goodbye again.

Queen - The Show Must Go On

" Inside my heart is breaking
My make-up may be flaking
But my smile still stays on.

Whatever happens, Ill leave it all to chance
Another heartache, another failed romance
On and on, does anybody know what we are living for?
I guess Im learning, I must be warmer now
Ill soon be turning, round the corner now
Outside the dawn is breaking
But inside in the dark Im aching to be free"

All music with lyrics speaks to me, some of it just speaks rubbish.

Greatest musician of the 20th century.

"Ho! Haha! Guard! Turn! Parry! Dodge! Spin! Ha! Thrust!" -- Daffy Duck

The album Neutral Milk Hotel- In The Aeroplane Over The Sea really gets me, but most of all its a band called Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Their a purely instrumental band (actually, they're more like a mini-orchestra), so they don't have lyrics (though, they do have some voice overs over people talking), but the emotions their music evoke and the atmosphere it creates are more powerful that the words of any musician I've so far found.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor is fucking rad. I also recommend Mogwai and Mum. Mum's totally different, but still a great mood-evoking instrumental band.

Anyway, what REALLY speaks to me is anything by David Bowie or Brian Eno. I don't think either of them have made any music that's less than perfect.

GameDaily Article that Interviewed Me: Console Defense Forces.

Iced Earth's Gettysburg (1853) trilogy, but specifically the third song, High Water Mark.

Below are the lyrics. Everything in parenthesis is backing vocals, and an ellipsis represents an instrumental section.

[Lee:]
"It Was Very Close Yesterday
I Thought For Sure They Would Break
But This Attack That I Have Planned
A Massive Strike Across Open Land
In The Center They Will Break (Will They Break?)
But Plan It Well, Everything's At Stake
We'll Hit 'Em Hard, Not A Silent Gun
Before The Infantry's Begun"

"Execute It Well, We Risk Everything"
"It's In God's Hands Now

[Longstreet:]
"General Lee I Must Tell You Straight
I Believe This Attack Will Fail
No 15,000 Men Ever Made
Will Overtake That Ridge Today
A Mile Charge Over Open Ground
With Yankee Cannon Gunnin' Us Down"

[Lee:]
"We Do Our Duty, We Do What We Must
And In My Plan You Will Trust"

(Thousands Die, On This Day)
"Execute It Well, We Risk Everything"
"It's In God's Hands Now"

...

The Rebel Cannon Break The Silence
150 Guns Make Up Their Cannonade

They Must Destroy The Union Center
Before The Infantry Can Launch Their Grand Assault

The Yankees Are Returning Fire
(The Earth Shakes Violently)
In Washington D.C. Lincoln Feels The Earth Shake

What Happens Here This Day
The Fate Of This Nation
In The Balance It Will Hang
Consumed With The Pain
The Courage Of The Blue
The Valor Of The Grey
So Very Sad But True
Consumed With The Pain

The Virginians Are The Chosen
In Wait Behind The Trees On Seminary Ridge

Longstreet's Slow To Give The Order
The Lines Emerge, A Mile, 15,000 Men

The Charge Begins In All It's Grandeur
(To The Copse Of Trees)
For Many Of These Men They Know It Is Their Last

The Slaughter Now Ensues
Bodies Fall Like Rain
They Valiantly Pursue
Yet Doomed To Remain
At The Double Quick They Charge
The Canister Rips Through Them
To The Mouth Of hell They March
Glory, The Only Gain

...

[Armistead:]
"We're Almost There My Boys
I've Never Served With Finer
We Must Push Forward Boys
And Bayonet The Yankee Tyrants
To The Copse Of Trees We Charge
To Crush The Union Center
And When They Turn And Run
An Open Road Leads Us To Freedom!"

...

[Lee:]
"It's Over Now We Are Retreating
I Never Thought That We'd Be Beaten
All This Blood Is On My Hands
The Thousands Dead Due To My Plan
I Am Responsible, All Of It Is My Fault
I Thought Us Invincible
Is This God's Will After All?
I Look Across This Blood Soaked Land
All This Blood Is On My Hands
God Forgive Me, Please Forgive Me
It's All My Fault, The Blood Is On My Hands"

Here's a truncated version of the song from youtube. The full version with the instrumental bits is much better.
