Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft devalues the Xboxes use of Natal wayy before it launches

Natal will do wonders on PC, not just for gaming, but for the many applications that will use it to help users.

On consoles... I am not that sure

Its better this way. What better way to drive adoption, lower cost, increase software development for the interface than to leverage the largest install base in the world?

Tease.

Well, no reason to limit it's capabilities to strictly just the 360. As a whole MS looks at profits, not just exclusivity for the 360.

Yes, especially when it was supposed to be Microsofts answer to the Wii

Since MS clearly wants Xbox to be a PC on the living room (with content MS controls and earns revenue on), this isn't really so surprising.

This is exactly what I am talking about. They completely marketed this thing on American television after E3. It was on the news, it was on tv shows...basically everywhere that whole week. To hear this now is bomb to the existence of the whole job they were trying to accomplish. Natal is bigger than the 360 plain and simple.

Absolutely. Imagine its use in a business setting. presentation...  white board...

Make it happen and I will try my darnest to get it implemented at work.

I think he means the technology more so then NATAL itself. I reckon this sort of tech will be marketed to businesses and such for the PC, to allow them to do video conferencing, presentations etc. I doubt the PC NATAL will be about gettnig it in households and games.

I'd be surprised if Microsoft ever tried to make our PC play NATAL games as it goes against the idea of an Office PC. NATAL's gaming applications clearly need to be in a households living room just for spatial reasons.

Really don't think this is just another Xbox 360 losing its exclusives to PC, if anything I can only see this expanding its appeal as the technology becomes far more mainstream.

Good and Natal is only a Microsoft Exclusive. Natal will be big.

Anyone with a PC can have access to it as well. The problem with Microsoft is that their ambition goes far beyond the gaming industry.

Wait, how is that bad? For all we know, it can be the new mouse...

Think about it. If you can use it on PC....why use it on the Xbox? Did I just open up an alternate dimension of thought? This isn't the first time Microsoft fucked up trying to make profit off of multiple sources. Microsoft destroyed the value for the original Xbox by having the games on PC and the Xbox at the same time.

You don't seem to understand: We can still use it with the Xbox 360. Why would we, you ask? Because it's better than a gamepad for certain things. Having it on the PC as well won't change the fact that there are some things the Xbox does better.

Expanse is a loss of exclusivity. I thank you for what you are trying to do though.
