Forums - General - Religious Man left his Daughter to die

I disagree with that. A child's health should only be in their parents' hands if those parents are deemed capable of providing for the child's well-being.
The trouble in this case is that it was found out only too late that they weren't.

Parents do not own their children and society has the right to set certain standarts. If I had a kid and beat it up for the smallest mistake just becaise I truly believed that that would make him/her a better person and it's the right thing to do, society has the right to take that kid away from me because it's child abuse.

Ehh, stop picking up certain points and just address the main message. That is, unless you have nothing.

Let me give you another example. Acupuncture is perfectly legal, but if you kill someone, it's illegal. However, that doesn't make the practice illegal.

There is no main message.  Your main message is largely without point.

The man did what he thought was best to save his child's life... and was wrong.

That's actually NOT illegal... nor should it be.  A childs health should be in their parents hands... and it should be up to them whther they are correct or not.  The only thing that should be illegal is if someone kills their child even though they know otherwise.

You can tell because that was his actual defense.  It's why people who don't vaccinate their children aren't arrested when they die.  They are doing what they believe is best for their child.

Well not yet anyway.

The new universal healthcare plan mandates vaccination.

My main message definitely has a point. The man probably had good intent. Well, great for him. The problem is that the law doesn't always work on what the person thinks is good intent (see: Hitler). A child's health is in the parent's hands, and that's why the parent should do everything in their power to get a child help if they need it. If a child is on the verge of death, you take them to receive medical care. That's the law. You don't treat them based on what you think is right. Frankly, I think this should be a case of child abuse, but I suppose her death puts it beyond that point.

Good intent does not make something right. I could list a bunch of examples of why this is true, but I think you could do the same.

Montana, you just Godwin'd.

I don't mind people being religious, But i do mind when people take religion too far and stuff like this happens.

I felt it should happen sooner rather than later, when the methods for comparison would be really ridiculous.

For example: "What if Hitler had been a dad?"

But did this person take it too far? He thought that faith healing was real. He obviously has never been educated properly, this isn't his fault. But, i still think he has broken the law.

Godwin'ing on purpose is somehow even more terrible, man.

Yes, he did take it too far, he was blinded by religion and the false belief that god would heal his daughter, He is old enough to know what he should of done.

It's a sort of meme in debate - "Godwin's Law" dictates that the first person who brings up Hitler or the Nazis automatically loses the debate.
