I meant before any VAT is applied (that's what USA prices are, right?).

70 € = $100

$100 / 1.2 (to eliminate 20% VAT) = $83

Yeah our prices are before sales tax.

I think partially to discourage people from "cheating" and going to somewhere cheaper to buy stuff.

I'd think other taxes probably also inflate the prices in europe however.  I mean unless i'm mistaken buisnesses in general pay higher taxes in Europe then the US.  Likely that buck gets passed to the consumer.

Or i suppose the buck gets passed from the consumer to the company so to speak.

I didn't notice that they were talking about British pounds, not Euros. It's the same deal in England?

So they meant 70 pounds? Wow...

Then the calculation is:

70 £ = $117

$117 / 1.15 (VAT is 15% in UK) = $102

Freakin' expensive. I believe  gamers would riot with prices like that :P

Wait... I just let it sink in... 10 times bigger then PS2 games?

HD graphics are THAT expensive. I thought it was like... 2-4 times.

So for 20 million you'd get the PS2 version for 2 million?

Yeah that's probably the case too, unfortunately that's too hard to calculate, no easy-to-get data.

This is why he is the former CEO

Exactly what I was thinking

$100 a game? lol

$100 games would kill the industry. It's already bad enough that development costs are rising at an unhealthy rate.

Actually the data i've seen seems to indicate that the US effective tax rate is 30% with the UK's being 28% for companies.

So... i'm stumped really.

By seen i mean looked up in the last minute.

I don't care what it works out too. If Sony ever did this I would give a giant Middle Finger to them and become a 360 Fanboy....or Wii Fanboy who ever doesn't try to fuck me over. This is why his ass is a Former CEO because of his stupidity!

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

It might be that European retailers have a higher profit margin on games though. That seems to be mentioned a lot when these discussions pop up.

It's hard to say how much of the higher price in Europe goes to retailers, and how much goes to the game publishers.
