PS3 isn't the king of consoles,  but it is a great console. IMO consoles are based on 3 things:

Hardware : PS3 is the clear winner, it's reliable, sleek, and high tech. But this is obviously going to change as tech advances constantly.

Software : SNES, DS, or PS2. They all have a buttload of gems.

For the innovation: 2600, NES, Wii and GameBoy. Also, most of nintendos controllers.

My choice? N64, odd, yes. But it had great games, reliable hardware, and no loading times.
