I think Rogue Galaxy got good reviews and you can probably get it for under 10€.

Rogue galaxy is Action RPG not turn based. I played it and kind of liked it but there are boss fights where you have to jump on the boss in a very specific location while it is moving so that you can hit its weak spot. too action oriented for me.

Xenosaga will probably not make sense without playing them in order.
However, I believe tehre is a xenosaga anime that showcases xenosaga 1. xenosaga 2 is considered the weakest of the 3 games however.

Yeah, I don't think it's good to jump right into the second game. The first game never got released in Europe though so Europeans have to either import or watch the cutscenes at youtube or something. There is a bonus disc with the Pal version of Xenosaga 2 but I don't remember if it contains clips from the first game or is just behind the scenes. I haven't heard of the anime but I'll check it out.

Xenosaga 2 suffered from a different battle system as well as different voice actors. The battle system in Xenosaga 2 isn't really that bad, but they did remove a few good things from Xenosaga 1. The voice actors were a mixed bunch. About the only new VA in Xenosaga 2 I liked was Chaos' VA who sounded much better in the role than the VA in Xenosaga 1.

How does that differ from the system FF X uses? |
FFX if I remember correctly uses ATB (active time battle) where the battle continues while you struggle with the menu to find the exact potion or magic you want to use/cast.

I don't know. Does those import games even work on ps2? I had no luck with one ntsc game.
Xenosaga anime is available from Netflix but since you are in Europe ...
