Forums - Gaming - Looking for a good JRPG

I need help to find a good JRPG.

I have enjoyed FF X and Lost odyssey. I don't know why, but those 2 games have been the best ones for me. I liked FF 9 and got around FF 8. Older final fantasies I just hated.

I also hated SMT and persona, infinite undiscovery and last remnant.

So what I am saying is that if someone knows a jrpg which might fit my tastes, please let me know. :)

edit:

I just got FF XII. I haven't played it a lot but so far I don't like it. If someone knows how to fix the camera on FF XII, tell me. :D

You seem to like turn based games. I'd recommend the Tales series (try Vesperia for 360) or the Kingdom Hearts series but I don't know if you like action RPGs.

But if you own a Wii or GC and would like one of the best turn based games out there with a flavor of tech in it (like FFX/LO/FF8) try the Baten Kaitos games (especially Origins). And if you ask, no, these games are not card games. If they were typical card games I wouldn't have gotten them and loved them to death.

Forgot to mention. I did not like ToV or KH at all.

I own a wii so I will check some reviews of that baten kaitos. I don't know what a card game is. Maybe you could explain that to me? :)

@ Soriku )

you'd recommend Tales and KH even to fps only gamers or train simulation nerds

really, everything he said makes it seem to me he would hate Tales and KH

@ Manos )

although you stated you "don't know why" you should try to tell us a bit more what you liked about those two games .. you already eliminated most of the very good jrpg franchises so it's hard to recommend anything, if we have no real clue what you thought was faszinating about FFX and LO

It is not easy to explain but I will try.

I like the setting/art style and characters of those games. Well, except Rikku. Also I like the battle system. I don't like that "timer" what is on many jrpg:s. Those are small things, but for me it is a big deal.

It does not have to be a very good franchise. Lost odyssey had a 70ish metascore so I guess a "bad" game will do too.

The Baten Kaitos games got some good reviews, but IMO they're 90+ games (the first Baten Kaitos is an 80+ game to me though) and they're not rated high enough.

By card games I mean something like the Yugioh games where you put cards on a field and they fight for you. In BK your commands are magnus/cards but characters don't actually use cards in battle, the characters attack with a sword/gun/fists/whatever like normal.

Great games with great stories, characters, music, and some of the best plot twists ever.

Yogi the bear? I am sorry, but we aren't talking the same language here. I don't know what BK or magnus is. Do those characters develop by grinding or do you just get better characters?

Hmm.. an "epic" feel rpg with real turn based battles (neither real-time nor atb) and more mature kind of design .. hmm...

Personally I find grinding in the BK games useless. You just need to develop better strategies. The game has you think more than games where you can just spam "attack".

So it is more of a strategy game than jrpg? Like Fire Emblem?

I think you got what I was looking for. Do you happen to know any such games?

Do you know enchanted arms? Could the battle system of BK be compared to it?

Oh, thanks for the vid.

@ Soriku

I think BK might be worth a shot. Looks ok. Thanks. :)
