Sakura Taisen > Persona. Sadly, SMT has the bigger brand name at this point. |
SMT > 98% of JRPG's
;)
But I'm not arguing quality or favorites, I'm arguing general game taste.

Sakura Taisen isn't a JRPG.
I said "Persona" not SMT.
Also, it's hard to argue "general game taste" because it really doesn't exist. You can't say generally gamers prefer XYZ over ABC when it comes to certain games because a majority of gamers have simply not played both and in many cases haven't heard of either.

Yes... you can. See general Others sales... shooters, sports, casual games... the occasional WRPG. That speaks for general game taste. I'm talking genres, not specific games.
Also, I used JRPG's as a generalization of SRPG's and JRPG's...

In order to say that sales represent taste, you need to prove two things:
1) Everyone has liked/loved every game they ever bought.
2) Every game that someone has not bought, they did so because they didn't like the game.
Sales = Taste is a BS position because it's impossible to prove and very easy to disprove.
Also, you can use JRPG when referring to SRPGs but that doesn't make it less wrong.
