Forums - Microsoft - Strong evidence that Natal is targeted for Holiday 2010

So, let's recap. We've got Microsoft's own Steve Ballmer on record saying that the company's Project Natal is on track for a 2010 release, a redaction of said statement, and a slimy report from overseas noting that the motion-sensing accessory is slated for a 2H 2010 launch. Just in case you needed one more modicum of evidence that Natal is headed for Christmas trees far and wide next year, THQ CEO Brian Farrell has said as much on the company's Q1 earnings call. To quote:

"With respect to the cycle itself, if you look at what's happening in the industry, the fact that we have for example, Natal from Microsoft, a platform addition coming late next year."

Of course, Mr. Farrell here may just be regurgitating news that he heard through the grapevine rather than inadvertently slipping the world a piece of insider knowledge, but hey, are you seriously going to question the insight of the guy who green-lit Bratz: Super Babyz? Exactly.

It looks like MS is targeting the Natal launch (along with games by first and third parties) for Holiday 2010. I'm really excited to play around with the technology myself both on the Xbox 360 and elsewhere. There have been reports of MS implementing it on a PC. I'd love to see what they do. Sure it seems pretty crazy to think that someone would use Office with motion sensing but there might be some really great ideas to come from the community. I'm most excited to see if and how the Linux community will take the tech further.

Hopefully they add support for it in XNA. I would love to fiddle with this thing.

Im hoping to see some real industry wide adoption like with TVs etc. The device itself is too awesome just to use as a console/pc interface.

Tease.

I hope they advertise the hell out of this.

It will be freaking wild.

2010 release... alongside the Microsoft's next console perhaps.

I agree. Lots of households with broken furniture and knick knacks.

Sony's got the Eye Pet for this christmas in America so this makes sense. I wonder what Nintendo are going to do then with a full yr to plan and prepare for the christmas casual fight to the death.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

MS better not forget the hardcore like some other company.
A few casual games in a year is cool... but don't go overboard and only release that.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

Obligatory dick measuring Gaming Laptop Specs: Sager NP8270-GTX: 17.3" FULL HD (1920X1080) LED Matte LC, nVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M, Intel Core i7-4700MQ, 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3, 750GB SATA II 3GB/s 7,200 RPM Hard Drive

That's what they all say, we promise we will primarily be core focussed. Well you can't effectively create a "casual" market if you don't support it sufficiently so this going to be a really interesting time for MS as they change their image.

And remember Ubisoft talking about increased casual dev. for Wii, DS and Natal, third parties will do the same thing on 360 that theyve done on Wii.
