Forums - Nintendo - Is the DSi region free?

I bought a few games for my DS (well still waiting for the DS to arrive), and I noticed one of the games had an ESRB-rating, and when I look on the back-cover it says "FOR SALE RENTAL AND USE ONLY IN USA, CANADA, MEXICO AND LATIN AMERICA".

Will I be able to play it when I live in Europe?

Sorry but DSi games are Region locked.

The DSi app/game shop (which doesn't have much atm) is region locked to where your DSi came from.
Retail games so far are staying region-free.
That line you quoted is something you can see on most games whether or not region-locked and has to do mostly with licensing.

edit: DSi-only cartridges (when/if there are some) might too be region locked.

Well it's FFIII, rather old, not a game specifically for DSi.

@FootballFan
Ah according to that article only DSi-games are region locked, I guess an older game like FFIII isn't then :)

Yep, i think your right. Sorry for misinforming.

Damn, that article says that the DSi cartridges aswell as downloads are region locked.

I can understand the DL but why are they changing it for the carts?

only DSI games which are downloadeable.Which you cant in the first place with an european DSI, so you mean retail games, which mean Region free, which means you can play them.The back cover said that since the dawn of time, its to prevent sales abroad.
