i get £5.65/hour at my waitressing job.. the only people who usually tip in percentage are tourists, the locals just kinda round it up to a few pound more than the cost of the meal. like if the meal comes to £26.87 they'll leave £30 or whatever. all our tips gets split between whoever's workin the bar that night (2 or 3 of us) and the kitchen porter. i can leave a 4-hour shift with like £15 in tips. it does help.
on the flip side of things, i cant afford to eat out very often at all (lol) but the few times i have been out we always chip in and try to leave at least a few pounds each.
