Forums - Gaming - Ubisoft First Quarter Sales Broken Down By Platform

http://www.endsights.com/2009/07/28/ubisoft-first-quarter-sales-broken-down-by-platform/

Based on numbers, why wouldn't Ubisoft give more effort and focus on Wii games considering that their bottom line was boosted more by Wii than any other console.  Wii showed 9% increase compared to close 7% by 360 and PCs up 6%.  PS3 down 8% but DS with 11% drop (WOW).  Consider with the the costs of development for each user base and I think it would be clear that they should put some of those monies into better quality games and a higher # of games for the Wii than just the offerings currently.  I'm not a fan of exclusivity but I think that based on numbers like this, there should be more effort in getting Wii owners better quality multi platforming games with more polish than what we have seen lately.

How about an Assassin's Creed or Splinter Cell for us?  Expand the idea of multi platform.

Ubi was down YoY by 69mln, more or less, so without the actual numbers, you can say the sales incresed or decresed for each plataform. For all we Know, it droped for everyone of them, but less for the Wii and PC. WIthout the actual revenue per console, we can't know.

You're dissappointed in what you're getting from Ubisoft? TMNT: Smash Up, Dawn of Discovery, Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars, Tenchu: Shadow Assassins, Shaun White Snowboarding: World Stage, Red Steel 2, Rabbids Go Home, and More Heroes 2 aren't enough? My god man you are picky. They seem pretty damn focused on the Wii to me.

Well at the moment, Wii gamers have Ubisoft's offerings of Rabbids go Home, TMNT Smash Up, Academy of Champions, No More Heros 2, Shaun White Snowboarding: World Tour and Red Steel 2 to look forward to.

I think Ubisoft is giving the Wii some of the best third party attention out of anyone.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

On a side note, Dawn of Dicovery has met their expectations...

^^ I have a feeling that's mostly from the PC version though.

It looks like everything declined for Ubisoft - DS software apparently dropped 67% for the quarter....but its contribution to the total sales for quarter was still 26% - larger than any other platform.

DS software declined 67%...but sales generated by DS out of everything dipped from 37% last year to 26% of sales this year

Here is the revenue breakdown: Euro

Total 2008 2009

169 mln 89mln

PC 23,66 mln 17,8 mln
DS 62,53 mln 23,14 mln
PS2 5,07 mln 0,89 mln
PS3 35,49 mln 11,57 mln
PSP 6,76 mln 3,56 mln
Wii 18,59 mln 17,8 mln
X360 15,21 mln 14,24 mln

So there you are, everybody is down, hence the shift in importance, but the HD twins are still responsible for close to 30 % of the revenue, if you don't include the Multiplats that are also on PC. So no, there's no reason to shift support. BTW, I agree with those who posted that UBi alredy gave the Wii lots of love lately, one of the most active 3rd party on Wii along with SEGA.

You are right about the support but there's only a few out of those I'm excited about.  Red Steel 2 I want most and am disappointed to see it pushed back.  Rabbids Go Home will be fun.  No More Heroes 2 is another but I still haven't bought or played the first one yet.  The others I know nothing about and I'm not into the Sports titles too much.  I do like the shooter games and wish there were more along those lines.  But it would be nice to see multiplatform mean more platforms like EA with Madden, Golf, etc.  Not like what multiplatform means now.... HD only!  There are other titles that our out there and with lower development costs and higher revenue on the Wii it would be nice to see their other titles spread out more.  That's all.  Those others you mentioned I haven't followed or read anything on so I'll be looking into those tonight when I have more time to read summaries on them and reviews if there are any yet.

The games I've really loved playing are Red Steel, Manhunt 2, RE4, Zelda, MOH:Heroes 2, COD3, Battle for the Pacific, The Conduit, House of the Dead 2 & 3, etc.

I just wonder why not put out more titles for a console where your revenue is great and costs are low.  I'd be happy seeing every game released on all consoles and PC/Mac.  But that day won't be happening anytime soon.

@ Wiifan75, if that( making everything multiplat) was easy or profitable, they would be doing it. That a look at Wii userbase, it's huge and it'll keep growing. Even if the said core titles don't sell that much, they do sell something and the sheer size of the market would make it valid to publish every game in every plataform.

But they (the 3rd companies) don't that. Why? Because it is probably not worth it. Simple like that. Otherwise, why wouldn't they? So probably they must get down to choosing between HD twins or Wii only.
WHile they release more titles for Wii, they release the big ones for the HD consoles. That's the facts. The reason is a mistery for me, But if you ask me, I would say that this is because only the big titles pay for themselves in the HD, and when they succeed, they succeed big time(see AC and CoD MW), while this kind of title is a lotery on the wii. So they release loads of small titles on Wii on the hope for some Imagine hit or something like that, extremely cheap and selling loads.
