The Slim PS2 didn't have Slim PS2 exclusives. And PS2 is actually at ~135m + sales.
@Asriel.
I just did a quick check on the sales forum and i got Media Create who do them seperately, and it appears from this thread that GfK also count them seperate.

So... some 360 models have HDMI port, others don't. Should they be counted separately?
|
Wow, seriously do you people read?
I said my reason for thinking they should be counted seperately was because DSi has DSi exclusives.
Do 360s with HDMI have "360 HDMI exclusives"? No.
|
Because you don't want the DS to pass PS2 sales we should count them seperatley? Come on. Just accept the fact that the DS is the best selling console ever and you'll be fine.
P.S. We are counting sales to consumers not to retailers here so don't try to change the rules.

It's really simple and Carl makes sense. If Ps2 slim had games you can ONLY PLAY on the slim it would be a whole new console since Ps2 fat owners would have to upgrade to play said games. Same thing is being said for DS/DSI. There is DSI games exclusive that you can't play on original DS which means it's technically a new console. If PsP GO only offers downloadable games for PsP Go (which they aren't) it would be a new console as well.
Either way I have no opinion on wether or not the sales of ds should be seperated. My opinions on DS outselling a home console are another story though.

The PSP Go example is a bit odd. If I can't play the games on UMD with PSP Go, shouldn't it be counted differently from PSP?
|
Nope because they still play the same games. A game will never come on the psp-go that will not be playable on the normal psp. So they are still the same console
|
so as long as the new games can be played on old hardware, it is considered the same console even though the old games can't be played on the new hardware?
|
Well yh. If the ps2 could play ps3 games then it wouldnt be a ps3 would it. It would be a remodled ps2.
|
Well, your point is terrible when talking about ps2 running ps3 games. I do count DSi in DS sales because
1)DSi isn't a new plataform, yes, it have spec upgrade nothing gorgeus, just little upgrade to make games run softer.
2)PSPGo is a PSP upgrade a well, and it can play old games, they'll be in the PSN pretty soon, and remember Sony will creat a toolfor you download freely a game you already own in UMD.
3)DSi only games will be just probably enhanced editions of older games (link's awekening DX) or something like that, I remember Game Boy Color And Game Boy, some games were made thinking in Game Boy Color (pokemon Gold/Silver but you could play okay in normal game boy
4)Nintendo didn't announce DSi as a true DS sucessor, just an hardware upgrade, like PSP-2000 to PSP-3000,DS to DSlite,PS2 to PS2 Slim and go on. It will take time til we see a true DS sucessor with great hardware jump and games that are made to run only there.
