Forums - Nintendo - Annoying (Wii Sports Resort) reviews - rant thread

Isn't it annoying when reviews just get some things wrong? I don't mean merely slagging off a game which most people happen to believe is good, I mean when they just get things plain wrong!

I read a Wii Sports Resort review last week which was complaining that you had to aim the ball in table tennis with the d-pad. The reviewer complained about it arguing that there surely should have been some way to aim the ball without using the D-pad! I was really looking forward to WSR, but that comment made me think - "yeah, actually, that sounds like a really bad oversight. Why would Miyamoto let something like that get through into the final product?"

Now I have the game and there's no use of the D-pad in table tennis at all! Maybe the reviewer was getting confused with golf?? I wish I could remember which review it was, if anyone else came across it then let me know.

But don't you just hate reviews like this? It makes one wonder whether the author really played all of the game himself to begin with.

Most of the reviewers for Wii titles really don't have a clue...they tend to struggle using the remote and nunchuck for some reason. I've lost count of the games that I've played and really enjoyed with no control issues where several reviewers slag off the controls as being 'broken'.

The worst review I've read recently is the review for The Conduit by Tae K Kim from GamePro here. In the second paragraph he states that he hasn't played the multiplayer. How can you possibly write a review without trying the online multiplayer?!? The review is full of inaccuracies.

Out of the lot I tend to agree mostly with IGN's reviews.

Correction - there is some use of the D-pad as it's used to re-centre the racket. But that makes it even more strange that the reviewer got it wrong. The worst part of all this is that it might put some people off the game who otherwise would have bought it. Tennis was, afterall, the most famous game from the original Wii Sports.

@Snowdog. That terrible GamePro review for The Conduit is quite infamous by now I think.

Yes, particularly when it's obvious that complaints come from a reviewer's lack of skill (see Mario Kart Wii reviews).

I read about the d-pad too... I don't remember where though. It was a deal breaker IMO... they should be more careful :-/

Most Wii reviews don't make sense. I said it at the beginning of this generation, but mileage may vary for pretty much all the reviewers. Some complain about the lack of sensitivity in games or that developers didn't optimize the use of the Wiimote for their games, but the problem is probably that they just don't have a good sensor setup and stuff like that.

Also, the best review I've ever read/watched must be that Metroid Prime 3: Corruption review at GameSpot. The guy knows what he's talking about!

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

^They should be especially careful with the early reviews. I was on Gamerankings looking for each new review that came up last week, and I'm sure I wasn't the only one. Reading something like that can make a big difference to someone who's still sitting on the fence regarding the purchase.

It is Wii review after all so what did you expect? Besides the game's name has the word "Wii". I bet these people start playing this games thinking "I'm going to hate this". They want the Wii to fail, they want to destroy the Wii, they are desperate.

All I can say is that WSR table tennis is simply brilliant. It worths the money for the whole package just like the original Wii Sports worthed the money just for tennis alone.
