Got one friend who's a massive Final Fantasy nut (and yes, I really mean massive), who has good things to say about pretty much every FF except FF4 and FF12. Got another friend who's more of a general gamer but likes Final Fantasy a lot too, and he hates it as well. I've just never seen anybody say good things about it.

Never? I mean, not even me? Not reviewers, not any of the people who consider it the best in the series?

I mean, it's not my favorite, but the game is one of the few real masterpieces in the series.

I don't really recall you ever mentioning it, honestly :o I haven't checked around reviews, really, I find it easier to trust my friends' opinions but I guess this time might not have been so good? XD So is the DS version worth getting, then?

It's one of the only RPGs on the DS that I recommend with a single caveat: it's hard.

Otherwise, yes, it's pretty great.

How hard, and in what way? Is it like "grind-your-ass-off-for-5-hours"-hard?

It's probably the hardest non-NES game in the series, and no, grinding isn't usually the answer. Most of the really difficult battles can be won out through the careful use of status magic or the careful application of different characters' unique skills. Cases where you're just too low level are fairly rare.

Around the Network

I actually liked final fantasy 3. You want slow battles play pokemon pearl. Final fantasy 3 was decent paced I felt though the multitude of slashing animations could have been taken out. The stylus navigation made grinding so much easier. The story was much improved over the original. It is a nice simple story. I found it refreshing considering how convoluted the newer final fantasies are.

FF3 is a good game for the DS. Maybe not a must buy but it isn't a waste of money.

I wish you could battle other people though. It would give me incentive to go back and grind some more. I believe I have all the master smith cards though. I spent a lot of time with that game. It was worth it.
