Forums - General - Anyone on this site observing Ramadaan?

Wait, from sunrise to sunset? Does this mean that Muslims are allowed to eat during the night?

I'm aware that one religion can only eat during the night in one festival, but I'm not sure whether it's Ramadaan or not.

Sorry for my ignorance.

@samuel

True.

No food, drink, sex, smoking from sunrise to sunset. At night all is available. Usually you get up early, eat breakfast and then try to not over exert yourself throughout the day.

it most definitely is ramadan. i mean you wouldnt be able to not eat and drink for a whole month without dying. usually you have a big dinner just at sunset, then around midnight some people eat again and then before sunrise. i think the breaking of the fast is called iftar and the big, days long feast/ celebration at the end of ramadan is referred to as 'id (?).

anyways, i also have a question: I have some good muslim firends and wanted to send them a card for 'id. When is the right time to do so and what to say?

as far as I know, Ramadan started on 13th of September this year, so the end is approaching soon.

@superchunk:

Yes, most definitely not try to overexert. meaning people will be coming at 10 am to work, then sleep during worktime and go back home for prayer latest 3 pm.

I take this a step further and do all my fasting on major holidays and my birthday. For every major holiday except Christmas, I fast just from midnight until the following midnight.

For Christmas, I fast for five full days only drinking water and juice. This year will be the hardest because I intend to be working 70+ hour weeks and all that energy is going to NEED to be replaced. Hopefully, I can make it. Discipline.

The fast is intended to be an exacting act of deep personal worship in which Muslims seek a raised level of closeness to God. The act of fasting is said to redirect the heart away from worldly activities, its purpose being to cleanse the inner soul and free it from harm. Properly observing the fast is supposed to induce a comfortable feeling of peace and calm. It also allows Muslims to practise self-discipline, sacrifice, and sympathy for those who are less fortunate, intended to make Muslims more generous and charitable.

looking how much muslims left their countries searching for a better life in western countries i think they failed...

there so much people that prefer to risk to die in the desert or sinking in the mediterranean sea to come in the europe instead of stay in their so full of charity muslim countries...
