Well lets face it; the PS2 had arguably the greatest library of games of any console in history. It was a monster, and all of its success it earned by being a 110% GAME MACHINE. Thats why its so damn awesome.
GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.
I don't think he wrote it for the same reason you did, His point was that one console outsold all those others (nearly, if he finds me that source) combined which would be quite an achievment for sony

Sony said they will not discontinue the PS2 until the day people no longer buy it. So it may be here for a couple of more years!
Life time sales for the ps2 will be 180m. the wii will never reach more than 120m (IMO)

Somebody sure seems to be living in the past.
Sony's own shipment reports have PS2 under 137 million as of march 09'.
It would take at least 5 years to accumulate another 20 million provided it doesn't die (which it will).
If you look at this PDF from SONY, you can see that they say the PS2 has sold 136 million units as of December 2008.

P.S. YOU HAVE TO READ THE ASTERISK THAT IS AFTER THE SENTENCE THAT GIVES THE SALES TO SEE THE DECEMBER FACT, I DIDNT MAKE IT UP.
P.P.S So just over 136 as of December, anyone care to make a guess as to what it is at this very day?
