Forums - Sony - Sony will not post a gain for this past quarter

jacezo they have been unprofitable most of the time, so there's quite a lot of evidence against that. They can be profitable for a while, but not sustainably during this gen so far.

Even if all the three systems are profitable on a hardware/software basis, that profit still has to cover their fixed expenses like employees, office costs, factory maintenance etc etc etc etc etc.

I don't think SCE is going to post a profit for a while now. Since they are combining some likely loss making enterprises in with the division. I wonder how many people will become hypocrites because of this changeover and the bad performance of some of Sonys other products which will all merily combine with SCE.

What did they add?

Can't remember, sorry.

Tease.

Last time i knew, Sony were losing $60 per Playstation. Why would that have changed?

Time and scale.

Hardware gets cheaper to make over time because of manufacturing enhancements and reduced costs of components.  I don't know where the $60 figure is sourced from, but they probably still loose on every PS3.  It will be interesting to see what is included in the PS3 Slim if it exists.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Someone mentioned it a while back, before Christmas. I guess you could be right. 7 months, well 10 when/if the price cut happens, PS3 production should be cheaper.

Also where is Fat Princess? Ive been waiting forever here........

Is this thread for real?

o think software sells make up for any lose on the ps3 that is sold. if sony loses a lot of money then ill be surprised.

It all depends what Home's income is.
They made 1M in user transactions in about 20 days, and this doesn't include ad revenue, increased user base over another 3M install base, and other microtransactions.
Assuming a profit on Home of 40M USD, they could be saving as much as 8$ per console through Home. I also think 40M is pretty conservative of an estimate but Sony said they would be announcing more numbers soon.

So how do you think Vaio and Walkman will affect the divisions report?
