Forums - General - Obama, Gates, and Crowley. Any of them racist?

So I think we all know the story. If not, here it is:

http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/07/24/officer.gates.arrest/index.html

I just want to point something out, as it's bothering me.

Obama and Gates called the issue an issue of race, but I ask you this.

  • If Gates was white and acted the same way, would he have been arrested? Yes.
  • If Gates was white, would Obama have even commented on the matter? No.
  • If Crowley was black, would Gates have blown up in his face? No.

So you have three people, two of which most likely acted very different due to race, and one who would have acted the same regardless or race. Why is Crowley the only one being called a racist?

Apparently you already have come up with the answer. Why ask the question?

Besides to be a cop you have to be a certain type of person. A person who enjoys power. Read some psych literature on cops. its fun.

Didn't a black cop come to Crowley defense saying he was doing his job and it had nothing to do with race?

Yea, and everyone else.

When the dust settled, everyone realized that the cop did the right thing, Obama apologized the best he could (he skated around really apologizing, because he didn't want to give Republicans any ammo).

Gates realized he over reacted too, and just wants it all to go away.

And I am OK with all that. The thing that bugs me, is you have a black president that wrongly accused a white man of something, because he didn't have all the facts and assumed the white guy was wrong because he was white (if a black cop arrested Gates, he would not have reacted the same way).

If the president was white, and the man he was accusing of doing something was due to him being black, it would have fired off a shit storm for months.

I hate the double standard.

yup. Agree with you on that... though I don't think the officer conducted himself properly.

What should he have done?

When I first read the headline, it sounded ridiculous. I had to double check to make sure it wasn't something out of The Onion, or an episode of Family Guy.

I find it funny though, everything Obama says or does, you disagree with, and then come post here in hopes that people will agree with you.

Let me ask you something, has Obama ever done a single thing that you DO agree with? Or do we only hear of the bad things that you think of him?

We'll miss you George.

Instead of criticizing him, why not refute what he is saying if you disagree with him.
