Well that comes from minimal understanding of the situation. Bad sales of a project don't affect the developer... they affect the publisher. For the most part, developers are paid up front at a fixed cost. However, sometimes they'll work it in a contract to get a percentage of the sales profits but that usually doesn't happen as it is a bigger risk. Now I'm sure Silicon Knights put a lot of money into the project over time and everything and out of their own pocketbooks. But look who the publishers was... Microsoft Game Studios. I'm sure they had no problems making it up with them as a publisher. Really MS is probably the one who got hit hard by this game not doing as well as it should have.
Remember Haze didn't break Free Radical. Sure bombs hurt your studio's reputation but not theirs... had too much under the belt that that game had no chance of hurting them. But it was undertaking two projects at once and funding being cut on one of them during it (Lucasarts cut funding on Battlefront 3). With so much invested in both projects and no publisher to fund them... they broke. Not the same case for Silicon Knights. We already know Sega is funding them for their next project.
As for this its about time we started hearing about it. Sega and Silicon Knights have been talking about it for awhile so we should see something by the end of the year. I really do wish they would go back and make a sequel to Eternal Darkness. It really deserves one. But until then can't wait to see what they have in store.
