It was more fun without that part.
One of the reasons Nintendo is successful is that they do this. Not the whole turning Timesquare into a beach deal. It's getting people to play it. All of those people really loved it (and they probably liked games critics hated). It matters that real people are testing your game. You want them to be happy, and to make sure they are is to play your products. This is why Miyamoto kidnaps people who are not gamers from inside the company to test the product.
