Forums - Gaming - Prototype is Painfully Mediocre >.< (imo)

Prototype isn't a bad game at all no...it's certainly aint all that either I'm alrdy on my second play through and while the game is entertaining and action packed the story isn't really that interesting compared to infamous.

I'm on mission 26 of the game and I'm really enjoying it. I don't get the repetitive complaint since I find that the missions are pretty varied and the powers are different enough to be fun to master.

I really don't understand the hate this game is getting from some people. Well I do somewhat since some Sony fans act weird towards multi-platform games and especially since they were hoping Infamous would outsell this game instead of Prototype outselling it on just one of the consoles alone.

Maybe some people just don't like the game.  The OP doesn't even own inFamous, if you haven't kept up with the thread and instead decided to assume that he was a PS3/inFamous fanboy based solely on his original post.

Personally, I don't think Prototype is my type of game either.  Autoaim?  No thanks.  The world doesn't seem particularly interesting.  The game seems a tad too over the top and tries too hard to be badass and cool.  Elbow dropping tanks is a bit ridiculous to me.  If Hulk: Ultimate Destruction is your thing, great, I'm sure you will enjoy the game.  It's just not my thing, and it has nothing to do with owning a PS3.

I'm almost positive that the game will get boring for me after an hour or two.  Just like Crackdown, GTA4, and Assassin's Creed.  The only sandbox game I've liked this gen is Saint's Row 2, but I haven't played Prototype or inFamous yet (plan on picking up inFamous tomorrow though).

You haven't even played Prototype yet you're making comments like that about it and lecturing others about assuming?  Seriously it's you that doesn't appear to be keeping up in this thread since it's obviously about people's opinions of the game that have actually played it.  As for the fanboy comment I may be assuming but I'm willing to bet you're one of the people I'm referring to.

I've seen lots of videos and have read some reviews.  I think I have a pretty good idea of what the game is like.  Does the game not have auto-aim?  Tell me that the game is not over the top, bordering on ridiculous.  Alex elbow drops tanks.  Is that not enough to tell me that the game is over the top?  Everyone talks about how awesome the game is, like Hulk: Ultimate Destruction.  Which is no surprise because it's the same developer.  So is it wrong to assume that if I didn't like Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, that I won't really like Prototype?

I'm looking forward to inFamous.  I played the demo, and enjoyed it.  The combat appeals to me because all his powers are basically guns (basic attack = rifle, shockwave = shotgun, lightning grenades = ...grenades).  And I'm a big fan of shooters.  Easily my favorite genre.  Whereas with Prototype, it seems to focus on powers that are decidedly not like guns.  Lots of running around slicing people up or picking up tanks and throwing them like toys.  As for picking up guns in Prototype, let me know if the game doesn't use auto-aim.  And even though I'm looking forward to inFamous, I doubt that it will supplant Saint's Row 2 as my favorite sandbox game.

As for being a fanboy, nope.  While I do enjoy my PS3, I can find plenty of flaws with it.  Off the top of my head is the fact that I can't even organize my PSN games alphabetically.  What the hell?  And half of my top 10 games this generation would probably be XBox360 exclusives, including Gears of War and Dead Rising.  And I'm sure Mass Effect would be on it too, if only I could play it.

I agree with the OP overall. The game does things right like the amount of powers Alex has is great but you end up only using half of them. The games story starts off on the right foot but dies midway through only to flare up near the end which was lame. The missions later on become more repetitive and forgetful with a simple " go to this place and kill/destroy this" It just felt like a chore, not me wanting to do it but more like I had to just to get story going.

The targeting is terrible when there are multiple enemies on screen and the mini game thing when getting in tanks while being attacked was annoying plus when trying to sneak into some military bases the alarms would go off for no reason it was like playing Hitman. The game is so frustrating and repetitive I almost quit playing it. I knew is game would be bad when Activison lifted the review embargo after its release, I don't think Activison had faith in the game.

GamerTag/PSN ID JoshmyersBV (please add me I have 2 friends on Xbox Live)

The amount of powers and the running around was fun, but I got soooo bored with the game. Got to mission 28 and just stopped playing, haven't even bothered to boot it up again. The lack of variety is what really hurt this one. By the time I got to mission 28, it felt like a chore to continue. The web of intrigue was nice, but I didn't feel compelled to find them all or care.

I enjoyed it...I even got the Platinum Trophy in it....the only thing I absolutely fucking hated were the gay ass collectibles...otherwise...fun game.

I couldn't get pass the controls. They just weren't solid whatsoever. Loose with a targetting system that made me want to cry. Seriously it was done correctly back in 1998 with LoZ: OoT... there is no excuse for having it bad in 2009.

I think it's a good game with an interesting story but the other flaws I just couldn't get over to continue the game.

Got too many games to play, not sure this is good game or not.

Seems like there's a 50/50 split with this one.

The controls were flimsy but the game was good.  I do think the story was terrible thanks in no small part due to the unlikeable main character and unnatural dialogue.

And here comes Legend with his brilliant theory that anyone who doesn't like a game with average reviews must be biased. Brilliant.
