I've been scouring these boards for a while and it just seems that Sony can't seem to please anyone. I read about how they have all these different sku's out, but M$ has 3 of them out right now. They also have a special Halo one out too. The Elite with HDMi 120gb HDD, the Core with out HDMi and no HDD, the 20gb HDD sku. Yet no ones bashes them.

As for backwards compatibilty, M$ has all but stopped caring about that, yet when Sony does, everyone is again bashing them. Yes, I know, they promised. So did M$. Heck, Microsoft were the ones that said HDMI isn't needed, yet a year later they add it on, yet I see no threads about how they are liars. 

Everyone is being too hard on Sony, seriously. The games are finally out, they have a lower priced sku and people are still complaining. Ask yourselves this, if the PS3 had the failure rate of the 360 would people be as calm and understanding as they're being towards Microsoft? Heck no. Give'em a break. What have they done to deserve such scourn? More importantly, do they deserve it more than their competitors? Nope. 

Everyone did bash MS for their BC, its kind of been forgotten now but it did happen. Same with the Core (no hard drive? What the fuck?) it got heaps of bashing as well.

I hadn't heard about the HDMI one to be honest.

Also calm and understanding towards RRoD, you have to be kidding? They get the shit mocked out of them for that.


Oh and what games are finally out for Sony? Heavenly Sword and Warhawk?

The Playstation 3 does have good games, just like any other console. At this point, not acknowlaging this is foolish.

What have they done?

Boasted. Everyone loves seeing that fall on their face. Unless you're the type of cheerleader that loves people that boast, and fail to deliver on such a magnificent scale you feel that they are now the underdog. Personally, if you tell me you'll deliver, don't fail.
Lied. Constantly. If this were politics, they'd be president of the United States by Now.
Rootkits are such a pleasant thing to have installed on your computer for having the audacity to put it in your cd rom drive, aren't they?
Sued Play-Asia for having the audacity to attempt to allow non Japanese gamers the chance to play Japanese games. Those bastards! How dare they!

Admittedly, Microsoft is just as Evil, and Nintendo's history is as clean as the ass of Akebono, but why not call people on their bullshit? If Nintendo begins giving the middle finger to third party again if they take a commanding lead, I hope it bites them in the ass. If Microsoft's failure rates reach 100% after 2 years, I'll be content that they failed with an 8 billion dollar investment to just try to get a presence into the living room.

Everyone loves to hate whoever is percieved to be top dog. If you take a look at MS outside of the video game world they are one of the most reviled companies ever, being on a level possibly beyond that of Standard Oil and AT&T in their heydays.

I dislike MS more than Sony, I can appreciate some of sony's motives behind their PS3 strategy, but others are just plain stupid and unfair to their fanbase.

I will happily say that MS have made A LOT or mistakes rushing their 360 to the market, they took a lot of risks and not many have paid off but they do have the money to throw at their customers to sweeten things.

Overall i don't really think that Sony are getting that much unfair negativity compared to MS (at least not now), most message boards on the net are full of people complaining about the RRoD, Updates killing their machine, scratched disks and so on, its got to the point were its become that common for a 360 to fail, nobody makes a big deal out of it anymore.

It was very trendy to dislike sony for a while, thats wearing off, I have a feeling that the people posting the anti sony stuff were mostly 360 fans, some of which were just annoyed their blessed 360 was sat there winking its red eye at them.

I think in general, the public is warming to the PS3 and moving away from the 360, the 360 has its big guns out there now, and its a great game, I think the public is generally feeling that the 360 has shown everything its capable of and looking at the PS3 to see what it can do with MGS4 and so on.

 As great as Halo3 is, i also believe that its much publicised shortcomings are a huge thorn for the 360. Halo3 is the pinacle of the xbox brand, and for it to come out looking somewhat disapointing, and in 640p is a burden. I do appreciate their reasons for this, but in the publics eye the game should have been so much more graphically. It is very easy for sony to exploit this now with their 'full HD' garbage.  Its all very well Bungie explaining the technicalities behind it, but theyre difficult for the average consumer to grasp, after MS ramming the whole 'always high def' 720p/1080p crap down our throats the last 2 years, its very easy for those same consumers to understand that 640p is lower.

I'm not too sure that the public is warming to Sony, but I think they should. Sony is obviously trying to right their mistakes and should at the very least be given credit for that.

As for M$, I like the 360, it has a lot of good games currently out for it. I just feel that many reviewers and G4 tend to excuse all their mistakes and love whatever piece of software they put out, but no matter how hard Sony tries, its the same "Well, they were boastful". Yeah, but who wasn't.

Also, grandmaster, the PS3 does have games out for it now. Ye for some reason people won't count them if the games are also released for the 360. But by that logic the original Xbox had no games then right? Because they was on the PS2 first. See, that doesn't make sense.

To be fair, many people do consider the original Xbox to have basically no games. Outside of Halo 1+2 and Ninja Gaiden, I myself am not entirely positive what anyone did with an Xbox. Sure, there were a number of games unique to the system that were mediocre, but the earth-shattering titles just weren't there.

It's the games. It really is. Neither company would be bashed directly for its BC or SKU policy alone, so what we're seeing with Sony is people looking for reasons to support their innate negative verdict that comes from the lack of big, exclusive games.

The best exclusive games out now for PS3 are HS and Warhawk; if FF, GTA, GT and MGS were out, would be second-tier games that sold to profitability and then faded away.

But they're holding the whole console up. That's bad.

MS is, I hate to admit, in the best position for core gamers right now. They have the games, they have the console at an affordable price for this generation, and they have the unique IP, unlike last generation.

Nintendo is in the best position for the future. They have practically unlimited capacity for Wii sales in NA should they produce enough units, and they have SMG and SSBB coming soon to all markets. This is not a PS3-like software situation because near-final code is being displayed in game previews, screenshots and videos NOW. They're going to be released this year and stick to their release dates, at least in NA/Japan.

Obviously nothing is certain, but PS3 is not going to rise beyond expectations until at least mid-2008 (and will be bashed until then), X360 needs to continue with regular solid game releases to become profitable (but they have the attention of the core gaming audience whatever they do), and Wii needs those two games in particular to be released on time.

erm, Sony deserves bashing for the constant evil and illegal practices they've been doing over the previous years. But don't worry, Microsoft is much worse and deserve a more thorough bashing. =)
