Dragon quest meant more to rpgs than Final Fantasy, square was on banckrupt and beting for a new genre on platforms wasn't the best thing, but then came enix and DQ and its mass succes and opened the gates for other rpgs(atleast in japan)

definitely FF for JRPGs in general. JRPGs almost always lack in a generation till FF swings by. It's quite obvious with the lateness of FFXIII this gen. The fact that every other JRPG struggles to sell 1 mil which FF always does on day 1 also confirms this.
"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)
"WAR is a racket. It always has been.
It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler
