Forums - Sales - Apple wonders: Where is this recession we keep hearing about?

Apple released their financials for the quarter ending June 30th. Profits are up 15% over same quarter last year, Mac sales up 4%, iPhone sales up 626OMGWTF%.

Okay, that last number is because the iPhone 3GS launched two weeks before the end of the quarter while the iPhone 3G launched two weeks after the end of last year's quarter, but still... This downturn really isn't doing much to slow Apple's growth.

I guess that Apple are one of the only companies that are posting a profit in these times, i mean people always need to have new phones and also ways not to have to deal with the awful OS that is anything Windows...

Actually many companies are posting profits, due to layoffs and things like that.

Anyway, great results for Apple, most companies are showing double-digit revenue drops but Apple actually increased its revenue.

I haven't really read anything about Apple laying off any of their workers. But either way good news for Apple, must be making a ton of profit from cheap, fun app games from their iTunes store.

There is that anyway, but i was mainly speaking about companies that have posted profits without cutting expenses by lay-offs etc...

Good for Apple though, i mean i would buy an iPhone but they are just SO expensive here in the UK (newest being £540!!!)

As I said, Apple's revenue (sales) is increasing so they don't need layoffs to post good profits.

Whether they're doing layoffs or not I don't know (if I had to guess I'd say no).

I think Apple laid off some staff recently, but it was mostly temp retail staff, so I wouldn't really count that.

Google is another company which has done quite well in the downturn. Their profits are up even higher than Apple's: 19% quarter over quarter. They say they're even raising their revenues from the notorious money pit, Youtube.
