I love the ads. LOL.
Yeah the website is really random. It's a really good marketing idea. One of the best Ive seen in a very long time.
I will say I like the fact they actually made the website to continue the campaign and that it's updated regularly.
The website is funny.
can someone seriously tell me what the problem is with having ads on the nxe, that can be completely ignored, and does not harness the gamers experience.......
IMO its nice to see an interactive dashboard.
life is based on deception-carving up xbox live down under-π
This looks the same as the movie adverts I have been getting for a while now. The only annoying thing is I could not find the movie advert again later as they come and go. I had not realised at the time it was an advert thinking it was just the normal Microsoft advertising.

Only NXE is less customizable than blades were...
As a 360 owner, I am severely dissapointed in Microsoft for this... Gold should be free if it has ads. (Actually, it should have from the start, but now we have a prime reason). Oddly enough, the Wii & PS3 both have free online and no ads... This will probably change, at least for sony...
It really sucks how people are practically forced to pay $50 a year to play games online, which becomes more and more of a necessity daily, due to the fact that most games are getting rid of splitscreen, or severely limiting it (GoW only has 2P splitscreen)...
I tried on my roommate's xbox and I saw no ads that were unrelated to gaming (like the telus ad in the op). So while there is advertisement, I say it's fine as long as it's directly related to gaming, as you see the same thing when you visit the PS store on a ps3.
However, I wouldn't approve of ads directly on my computer desktop, so for gold users in particular there should be an option to disable them, especially if they are going to be running ads that have absolutely no relevance to gaming. Ads with sound in particular are too intrusive unless you are going to give all users free online play.

Isn't the advantage of being a gold member getting reduced ads
And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

Has the dashboard ever looked different for gold members?
You are paying for online play and additional functionality and features(Netflix, Primetime, etc). You are not paying for the same service minus ads. If that were the case, there might be an issue. But paying for Gold is like adding additional features onto your phone plan. The base offerings are the same, but you pay for extra functionality.

A) If you're still paying $50 a year for Live Gold, you're an idiot.
B) The NXE dash is NOT hard to defend. NXE and Xbox Live are awesome services. Especially after you see PSN in action.
C) I pay extra money every month for HBO. I pay extra money for HD cable. I paid money for all of my games that have ads IN GAME. (I'm looking at you, EA and Ubisoft!!). At least the Xbox Live ads usually pertain to things I actually may be interested in. Do I ever click on any of them? No. Could I tell you one thing about the content of any of them? No. Because I have the option to navigate right past them, which is what I always do.
This is all belly aching just to belly ache. Ads are everywhere and always will be. I heard a TV executive once say that the whole point of TV shows is to get you to watch long enough to get to the commercials. I think you can take that philosophy and extend it into almost any other media. How much of the last magazine you read was ads and how much of it was actual content. You paid extra money for that, right?
Jeez guys, play your games and shut up. Nobody is holding a gun to your head to force you to read ads.
EDIT: And I STILL stand by my statement in another post--PS HOME is just a gigantic ad too, or at least parts of it are. No, you don't pay extra for it, but you're still being suckered.
