wait doesn't this website have ads....

It's also free to use.
|
But the internet that you use to view this site is not free...
|
the internets a medium to give you access to view the website. You dont pay VGChartz for internet access.
Seriously, anyone defending this is weak and only on the defensive. Its lame, and unnecessary to have to clutter up the dashboard in its own right....factor in the fact the majority of the people who access this area are gaming online thus they are paying MSFT for essentially no reason since everything MSFT has done for online gaming is being done on the PS3 for free then why is MSFT doing this? And please spare me "ZOMG PS3 fanboiyss" Its true. Gold members pay for servers that work the same as PS3 users for free. Bottom line.
Its not backbreaking, but its annoying and the more blind fools who act like this isnt a problem the more we will see its prevelence in the future.

Says the guy who favors the PS3 and probably doesn't even own a 360. This is only a problem for non-360 owners/360 haters only.
Bottom line: Virtually every service you pay for still has ads. Should they have ads even though your paying for their service,? no. But is it a big deal? Not in the least.
And without the medium (internet) you can't go on this site or any other site for that matter. So yes technically your paying to go on this site.

Thanks. It doesnt change reality, you can call me names all you want but as a former 360 owner who gave up after 2 RROD's and a gamer in general it matters to me because this is setting a precedent. Online bot ads in mmo's? Cluttering my navigation? If MSFT has teh balls to charge 50 bucks a year for online access and still puts whatever they want in your dashboard whats next?
It has nothing to do with what console i own right now, because i may own a 360 again in the future, 360 owners nonchalance and instant personal attack outward at people criticizing this and calling them names, like youre doing, rather than question why a service theyre paying for that is free for PS3 users still requires ingame ads for revenue is whats troublesome.
For some reason you seem to be so invested in this fraternity like atmosphere of this gaming generation that you are simply pulling wool over your own eyes. PC gamers and game for free, PS3 users can game for free online, Wii users can game for free online yet 360 users have to pay and still get in game adverts for MSFT revenue....sorry but if no one reacts its going to spread......
The thing is, because of the PS3 being free for online functionality my main worry is the growth of this practice not me feeling sorry for people that are being taken advantage of by MSFT. But the fact that people that could directly have input that matters, or should matter, to MSFT their userbase seem to have a caveman territorial mentality on the issue and not thinking from an aspect of right and wrong and instead simply throwing their arms up in the air and saying 'hey its okay because there are similiar cases of wrongdoings so lets just let the snowball grow', is whats worrisome.
And in regards to the italicezed, im also paying gas companies to drive my car but that doesnt mean the gas companies are responsible for my problems with my car. Understand the flaw in your desperate attempt to try to justify this? Just because you cant have VG chartz without the internet does not mean the two seperate products are in bed together.

Paying for a service, yet still being subjected to ads is the rule...anything else is the exception, and as stupid as that may seem, your just gonna have to live with it cause thats just the way it is.
Bottom line: Virtually every service you pay for still has ads. Should they have ads even though your paying for their service,? no. But is it a big deal? Not in the least.
And as for your bolded. You still can't use one without the other. And no more cherry-picking. you got that?

No its not the way it is. There werent ads last year, there are now. Its not matter of science, its not like these things exist in this world and we should accept them as such. These are appearing because of business suits exchanging money, to dumb it down and saying "thats the way it is accept it" is what allows this to potentially turn into what the previous user said about ads on our windows desktop or ad bots in MMO's or gratuitous in game/in movie/in tv show ads or billboards popping up next to parks ruining the atmosphere and other things that detract from the experience and or immersion of the mediums we use.
Im not cherry picking anything but i guess we just disagree on how much we want our experiences altered and diminished and how you prefer to accept it and i, on the other hand, get worried at the precedent certain things set.Just different opinions on consumerism and the topic at hand which extends far beyond the in dashboard ads as a whole.

free services have ads, for a while paid service pro it's that you dont have to see ads.
some freeware apps have ads, but when you get the license ads are removed, and same for some websites like IGN.
dashboards are the same annoying one as the windows live messenger a free services if they were small boxes u could ignore, but they whole windows on commercial breaks, WITH MUSIC.
i hate ads with passiona and especially when it's a paid service, hell even free i try everything i can to remove them.
