Forums - Sony - Home is lame, confirmed?

Why I think it's a failure? because of this......

@SciFiBoy-  That was my experience as well (about 1 month ago) that there was nothing worth spending any time there.  My wife actually returned an additional time, and checked out the bubble game and the little trailer station, and the Resident Evil 5 skin, but it was all rather pointless.  Neither of us has made a third visit.

The few partial games available have far superior full versions available outside of home, and it seems like a lot of extra waiting and nonsense to play a sub-standard version of the game ("Hmmm, do I want to load up Endochrome?  Or do I want to load up Home, wait for it to boot, leave my apartment, wait for outside to load, walk to the bowling alley, wait for it to load, stand in line for Endochrome, and then play three simplistic levels that roughly approximate a demo of Endochrome...  Hmmm...").  It just seems like a waste of time, really, but may actually be fun for younger users (teens/tweens who are entertained by attending a virtual dance or babbling while watching a poorly rendered avatar respond to the controller), or if they incorporated voice chat.

I wouldn't call that a failure....  The fact that they haven't used that income to deliver on the promises made before the beta launched, though...

Maybe they should...  It's often cited as a major benefit of having a PS3, but much like the much-touted exclusives, numbers aren't reflecting any follow-through on the fanboy buzz around these things.

If only 1 in four PS3 owners can be bothered to look at Home twice, or to buy Killzone 2, or to buy this or that...

I can say for myself, I went in to try the Red Bull Plane, thought it was Bull and never went back.

It takes to long to do anything in HOME, and I hate waiting in lines especially in a game... I mean social network.

@Steve : if you think it should appeal to younger people, then 360 fans should really love Home.

Joke aside, it's a nice service in my opinion, I have a lot of fun in it, and I'm 34.

I love going to the theatre to watch new videos about upcoming games, or devs interview. E3 videos were there too (in a special dedicated space actually).

You know 'second life' was mostly played by adults, yeah ?

Well, here I suspect it's a bit the same, just with games and game features...

It's definitely a success for Sony since they already sold 1 million $ goods in last january (and a lot more by now...)

Actually the major benifit for having a PS3 other than the"much-outed exclusives" is the free online, Home is just a nice bonus

Yeah, home was hardly a defining feature of the PS3... Just a nice bonus.

Major benefits of the PS3 are having the best exclusives lineup and playing online for free.

I think it's the same folks as Live and Home...  Like I said, on one you have the "F-U you f'n f@g!!" every four seconds while playing a game.  In home, it's "A/S/L? im tochin ur @ss!!11!" while someone's av has a seizure behind you.Second Life doesn't exactly have best reputation for the kinds of people that played it...  Those "adults" regularly appeared to be emotionally and socially stunted.  Home (allegedly) isn't meant for social misfits exercising escapism, it's supposed to be a social experience for gamers.

Also: You'd rather go through all the loading and walking around ot watch the trailers, rather than just grab them from the PS store?

That's "the" major benefit for the PS3?  You know what else has "free" online?  A wi-fi laptop in a coffee shop.  The added bonus there is caffeine and laws limiting the ammount of stupidity one can engage in.

You make a point there (I think) in that PS3 owners aren't opening their wallet to show that they see other things as "major benefits" to owning their system.  The exclusives sell to only a fraction of the console's install base, people rarely return to home, but over a million dollars have been spent on virtual clothes and plants for the handful of folks that have invested time in Home.
