I say yes! Halo 2 & 3, hmmmm.... not really.

No, as a moderately seasoned PC FPS gamer I was hoping for big things, but what I got was a very average affair with no online multiplayer support. When I got my XBOX it was one of the first games on my to do list and was a big letdown. I will admit the games last stage rocks though.

I still bought Halo 2 after the letdown that 1 was due to online support. I couldnt even stomach the single player. The multiplayer was great for the short time I played it, but then I got Battlefront 2 and Halo 2 was never played again. I learned my lesson and never bought another Halo game again.

I just played Half Life 2 today and for the past week. Technically obviously HL2 is superior since it came out 3 years later but Halo 1 is just more fun...

Yes the mid section drags on a bit in halo...but the boat section in HL2 drags on much more.
And that is one of the top tier FPS games...so halo is in the same league.

No... I still think Goldeneye is THE best FPS but Halo is not too far along with Half-Life 2 and CoD4.

GoldenEye is outdated and hasn't aged well at all, the controls are stiff and clunky compared to Halo.

Half-Life 2 is better than Halo but COD4 is WAY inferior, it's just a shallow shooting gallery with 100% scripted A.I. and has no replay value in the single-player. Playing on multiple difficulty settings just makes COD4 tedious and frustrating than challenging. Not to mention the multiplayer is unbalanced and takes no skill to play unlike Halo CE.

Im still trying to see how half life 2 is better... Yeah, the set pieces are maybe a tag bit better, but HL2 gunplay is quite lacking even to lesser shooters than halo. Games like FEAR own Half Life 2 enemy AI and gun fights.

HL2 does have a great story, music is awesome...weapons are great...but as an FPS I come to the table for the shooting part, and the shooting in Hal Life has always been a little on the safe side.

Halo: CE is flat out fun.

Yea I think it's one of the best. Not the best. It's even hard to say what is the best fps ever because there is a lot of diversity. I have played lots of FPS games from Goldeneye to Wolfenstein to Battlefield to CoD. All of them have their strong suits. I like it a lot, it's a great game, I really do think it could be top 5 or 10 for that matter.
