Wii -> It's all about accessibility, freshness and fun
Epic -> All about graphics and showoff

Wii & Epic = Error

Who told you that great graphics and fun are mutually exclusive? Epic's games are fun but considering your post I doubt you actually played any of them.

For once, Legend, I'm with you. routso...whatever. Have you every played any of the Unreal Tournament games on the PC? Because you do not know addiction if you haven't.

Wii games can have all the innovative controls they want, it won't save the games from being crappy.

uhmm.. that's quite a shame and I hope for Wii-owners ,that other 3rd parties think differently and try to push the Wii to the max. I think there still is quite some potential in the Wii's graphics and , alhtough grafics certainly aren't the most important aspect of a game (especially for Wii games) I think for some visions to be realized as astounishing as planed some graphical muscles won't hurt.

MontanaHatchet & Legend11 :

Ouch! I never meant Epic's games aren't fun, I meant the company image itself! I said Epic not Epic games... And I've played Unreal 1 & 2 and UT, UT2004 and GOW and own all but Unreal 2 and GOW.

stop trying to get Crucial fired ;o

Why does anyone consider anything Mark Rein says to be important? He is a PR shill. He was kissing MS' but before Gears launched. Saying how great the 360 was, ignoring the Wii, and downplaying the PS3. Now that they have UT3 hitting PS3, he is guess what he is kissing Sony's butt and playing up the PS3. He will continue to kiss Sony's butt until UT3 is launched. Once work starts on Gear of War 2, do you know what Mark Rein will be doing then? He will breaking out his kneepads for MS again. If Iwata came to Epic right now and asked Epic to develop a customized Unreal Engine for Wii do you know what Mark Rein would be doing the following day? Thats right, he'd be kissing Nintendo's butt too. Thats his job.

First off, I'm a 3rd party developer.

The most attractive thing about the Wii is accessibility. It is fairly inexpensive to develop for. Developing for the 360 or the PS3 requires a huge team of artists as well as quality graphics engineers. You really don't need that with the Wii.

I've worked for Sony before and worked on a "next gen title", and the budget just skyrockets with the artists and tech required to pull of something that you would all consider next gen.

Small developers will go for the Wii.

Well I hope you make a nice title for the Wii. How much would you guess it costs to make a Wii title?

About as much as it costs to make a PS2 title right now =)

That all depends, any dev studio can hire overqualified people that cost way too much and run the budget up. But really it takes very little. Especially in comparison to the 360 or PS3.

What I really like about this is that you get more budget for designers. More time to make quality game mechanics. I've been on enough projects where basically 85% of our budget had to go to making the game "look awesome". Those aren't the game I want to make.

Thank God for developers like you!

I wish more people had your mindset.

Best of luck in your future projects. This industry needs more cats like you.

 Hah, thanks =)

To be honest, my long term goals is to work with a very small company and make downloadable games.  Making games for XBox Arcade and PSN would give me enough freedom to actually design fun games without worrying about marketing and publishing.  At least I hope.   I'm thinking like a 5 man operation, but we'll see how it materializes.
