Forums - Sony - The PS3 Might Be Doing Better Than Most Think

Actually PS3 might be doing worse than most think. Its bleeding money and badly. We don't really know how badly its bleeding. If it wouldn't bleed and if it would have been profitable since launch(with same selling amounts), MS would have been the loser of this gen.

It was very important to make a thread about this important random blog post.

Sony has money problems.
The PS3 is still doing really good.
I think it will eventually win.

it doesn't matter how much it is bleeding anymore, the damage has already been done and it would be a miracle to get 1/3 of the money back that they lost this gen. Stop trying to spin it, comparing it to utter failures like gamecube and xbox doesn't make it look good. Sony had the gaming world in the palm of its hand and it let it go by making the ridiculous decision to have a $600 console.

I find the irony funny, the PS3 vs the XBox 360 actually performed better sales wise than the editor thinks.

The XBox 360 sold 19 million taking equal timeframes (shipped by March 2008 according to Microsoft). It also fails to highlight some interesting points, quoting myself from another thread:

"The PS3 already outperformed the XBox 360 taking equal time frames despite additional headstarts for the 360 taking equal timeframes ranging from a couple extra months for PAL regions (two holiday seasons vs four for the 360) up to even years for some regions and at a much higher entry pricing throughout this period.

22.73 million PS3s vs 19 million XBox 360s. Not bad considering the PS3 did not receive any official price cuts in 2008 and 2009 so far, despite never ending rumours (bad for sales). Sadly a strong yen and weak global economy prevented this."

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

Thank you MikeB for attempting to derail another thread.  You really want to into the aligned launch direction?

Derail the thread? I read the original post and I think my posting is 100% on topic. I haven't read any potential 'off topic' (?) discussion which followed (which you think I derail?)

The original post compared hardware sales taking equal timeframes, likewise was my posting. Your reply on the other hand is 100% off topic...

And yet, if we just look at hardware since the PS3 launched the 360 is still ahead, funny...

VGChartz Hardware data for the period 05th Nov 2006 to 11th Jul 2009:

Console PS3 X360
Total
22,540,192
26,170,307

@ De85

If taking VGChartz data in this regard I think this chart is far more relevant:
http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=XB®1=All&cons2=PS3®2=All&cons3=X360®3=All&weeks=156

This is quite obvious, but as consoles are available for a longer period of time the games library grows (appealing to more different people) and there has been more time to develop top notch projects (which obviously take time to develop, often many years).

And as time goes on consoles tend to receive price cuts (and budget priced games), again resulting into the console appealling to more people (IMO especially wider demographics, such as targeting younger audiences). It's a minor issue that the PS3 didn't receive an official cut on entry pricing for nearly 2 years now, yet the console performs reasonably even at this point. For the long run, I think this probably won't matter much (like we will likely see a slimline PS3 this year).

it doesn't matter if it's on topic or not, you will derail the thread if this keeps up. Don't know why people even bother responding to his posts.
