Forums - Gaming - Dreamcast overrated?

Basically I've noticed that many many people on here act as if the Dreamcast was God's gift to gaming.  I have a Dreamcast and didn't see and still don't see what the big deal was.  Sure it didn't suck, that was the Saturn; but it was mediocre at best.  I'm assuming a lot has to do with it's iconic status as Sega last console, therefore people feel more attached to it.  I started as as a Sega boy too, had Genesis with CD add on(both still work), Saturn(huge mistake) and finally the Dremcast and PS2 last generation.  Owning both of them the Dreamcast is like holding a candle to the sun.  Comes no where near the PS2 or even the likes of my N64.  The only memorable games were the Sonics Adventures.  Anyone else feel like people on this board overrate the Dreamcast as if it were some magical wonder system?

I agree but I think you could have been a tad more tactfull.

Yes, people overrate it just because it died early. That's not to say it didn't have great games, it really did.

Seriously what the Dreamcast did in 2 years, will never be forgotten. Compare PS2 2000-2002 to Dreamcast 1999-2001..

I'm too lazy but still compare Dreamcast to PS2 in the regard and the Dreamcast is the true sun.

Pixel Art can be fun.

The Dreamcast was able to get so many great games in those 2 years is the reason why it's loved....

Former something....

Indeed.......... for the 2 years that the Dreamcast was around it made the ps2's first 2 years on the market look pathetic.

x-squad, eternal ring and wild wild racing anyone?

The Dreamcast was ahead of it's time.
It had AMAZING games from every genre. Ever heard of SoulCalibur, Shenmue, Quake III, Taxi Driver?

The Dreamcast had some superb games, I still have mine setup alongside my 360 and wii, I felt it deserves a space,

In my view it walked all over the Gamecube and PS2, :)

Oh yea, it's definitely overrated.

What comes to mind.

Survival Horror: Resident Evil: Code Veronica

Platformer: Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2

JRPG: Grandia 2

Rhythm/Dance: Space Channel 5, Samba de Amigo

Fighting: Ready to Rumble, Soul Calibur

There are others to be sure.

Pixel Art can be fun.
