Forums - Sony - Toshiba Goes Blu

TOKYO (Dow Jones)--Toshiba Corp. (6502.TO) will enter the Blu-ray disc market as early as by the end of this year, the Yomiuri Shimbun reported Sunday.

Toshiba wasn't available for immediate comments.

Toshiba, which gave up pursuing a high-definition digital versatile disc business last year, will sell players for Blu-ray disc and DVD, given that the Blu-ray disc market has been growing, the report said.

It will also consider coming up with a recorder as well, it added.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

They seem pretty reluctant but i guess that is understandable! They will not have made this decision lightly...

more competition cheaper prices and better quality.

A recorder? That would be pretty sweet if it were affordable!

makes the most sense... didnt they say they would be heading to DD after pulling from the market?

Guess they realized DD isn't the future =P

This is a smart move on their part, they make quality electronics and alot of people love their products. They may have realized DD was farther off from mainstream then originally anticipated so they decided to jump on the Blu-ray bandwagon.

Finally! They were sore losers for a long time...
