I'm not entirely sure but I think the first PS1 analog controllers came out in 1999

The Japanese version of Final Fantasy VII was released in January of 07. US got the first Analog Controllers in August of that year. So, no reason to really implement them at the time.

I thought the PS3 was supposed to upscale this damn thing? Ps3 upscales to make it look sharper...that's pretty much all you're gonna get. I mean it's a 12yr old game... |
Yes the game might be 12 yrs old, but when I play NES, SNES, and N64 Wii donwloaded games on my lcd tv the games look just fine, but when I play Final Fantasy 7 or most of the ps1 games the graphics look like crap on an lcd. Its clearly a pixel problem because if I boot up the Chrono Trigger ps1 disc on my ps3 it looks just fine, but games like Final Fantasy 7 and Chrono Cross look like a pixel nightmare!!
maybe it's just me but the game looks fine to me both on my tv and my psp.

1. Try playing it on a SDTV, playing any 1-6th generation game on a HDTV will make it look terrible. The out of battle character graphics were pretty poor but it was Squaresoft's first attempt at 3D and first attempt on the Playstation. Squaresoft made the first Lego game really ;).
2. Its MP3, the PC version uses MIDI and it sucks in comparison. Audio wise. The soundtrack is brilliant though, you will get nothing less than brilliant when Nobuo Uematsu is composing though.
3. No, hes not Gay... Play the game. (And Crisis Core). He only came out of a Mako indused coma a couple of weeks/days prior to the start of Final Fantasy VII, was pumped full of Jenova Cells and Mako for a few years while in a tube, had his only true friend (and role model) in SOLDIER (Zack) die in front of him (While still fucked in the head) and has Sephiroth pulling at his brain strings through out the whole of Final Fantasy VII. Oh and he gets fucked off Mako again after the events in the Northern Crater during disc 2.
4. Cid curses way more and for no reason. Barret only curses when hes talking about something he hates. *It's cause of that &%*£&$ Pizza that the people below are suffering!* I can't remember exactly how the dialogue is said. Cid is funny as fuck.
5. No matter how many times you play the game you still get the same great feeling from your first playthrough.
6. Yeah pretty pointless, 80% of it will be replaced with something better or will never be used.
7. I won't complain. If you want more reasonable realistic proportion's though refer to Advent Children.
8. I agree with you here. I must have been around 9 when I first played it (ten 2nd time) and I never made it past the Shinra Mansion on two playthroughs! For some reason I always assumed I needed to open the Safe to progress the story and I never could figure out certain digits of the combination so I stopped playing the game and left it...
I finally completed it at around 13 years old and beat Omega Weapon without taking damage or using the water materia (My dad helped me out with some crazy materia combinations and I found out a extremely quick way to earn AP to Master the Materia and duplicate it. He was really into it) and beat Ruby weapon after that only being hit twice. I still really didn't grasp much the story untill I was around 16 when I replayed it for the fourth time and completed it again. Now at 18 I pretty much know everything there is about the Final Fantasy VII and fully understand the story and the back stories. I never botherd with Dirge of Cerberus because it was quite frankly shit... I read up Vincent's history though. Final Fantasy VII has always been my favorite game and will always be. Star Ocean II and Skies of Arcadia follow in second and third place. And Cloud is not gay.. Lol. Oh and Sephiroth is the best/most kickass villian EVAR..

Some incredibly muscley, female mega man/Cell (DBZ) hybrid thing wearing a metal nappy lieing dead on the grass? Thats what comes to my mind

Yeah im also Replaying FFVII here to, but on my PSP, it looks HORRID on the PS3, it looks much better on PSP + its on the go!
Really though, nice mini review, i agree with alot you said man, still a legend though. where are you at?

upscaling can not do miracles.
i think games about that time where 320x240. x.x
I just finished the game again. Man, the ending is still the most fucking awesome of all games ever made.
