Forums - Nintendo - My WII Died Last Night

Reading through all these replies a couple of these things have happened to me. My Wii went for repairs shortly after i got Smash Bros. as it couldn't read the disc. It worked with Smash Bros. for a while afterwards but then gave up the ghost with it again. So i just used another Wii to play it. My Wii is very noisy now, though, especially when i am playing Animal crossing and on a few occasions has displayed a message saying it can't read the disc. Think it might be on the way out. I really should get round to formatting everything to an sd card. I do live in a "smoking house" though. Don't think the Wii likes being a passive smoker!

That's how mine started (Noisy, saying it can't read the occasional disc and then working).

Backup your save games one by one (at least the ones you care about!) before it is too late!

Mine is getting noisier too, not the fan but the disc-reading.... It started when I dropped it about a year and a half ago... though it doesn't seem to be increasing very fast.

My WII died last night.  I got it on Day one (Nov 19 2007? something like that).

It is out of waranty and will cost $85 to fix.  They said if I take it to them they can fix it in a day, which is pretty good.

The problem however is with the memory card, most of my save games will be lost :(

This is most depressing.

I know the PS3 has a backup function (so you can backup to a usb hard disk or something).  how come the wii doesn't?  I looked for one before, i ended up manually backing things up to the memory card, but it is a painful process.

So has this happened to anyone else on here?  Or am i the only unlucky fellow?

I feel with you. My Xbox 360 broke last night. Now for the second time.

Tempus fugit Nintendo manet.

If the data is still there to be saved they'll save it. I sent in my Wii a while back and they sent me a new one with my old save data already on it. But since a problem seems to be with the corrupt data, there's a possibility they can't salvage it.

I know I got the warranty extended an additional year after they fixed it, so I'd assume if it breaks down again within a year there should be no cost. But I'm not sure about this at all.

i feel for you right now my wii is getting repaired

I also bought my Wii on day 1 and it broke on June 22. The reason it broke was SSBB disc and got it fixed for free. Maybe u should go online to Nintendo's website.

Well 3 things are certain in life.

We Live
We Die
Your console will brake

This is the first console I had that broke. I guess I am fortunate in that case!

Nothing is certain in life. I had all Nintendo consoles and NOTHING ever broke, NOTHING.

Gameboys know what im talking about.................

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Yeah Nintendo consoles are famous for being indestructable. The Wii is more fragile than most though.

I dont understand what you mean by no data back up? You can use an SD card.
