Use Yojimbo if you just want to get past it.

Dark Aeons are insane. Most people kick their asses with Zanmato, which kills in one hit. You'll need shitloads of money though, several million for each aeon.
I beat the first 3-4 with my characters, they had their ultimate weapons and were quite strong with roughly 120 hours of gameplay behind them (mind you, 40 of those hours were prolly blitzball, my team was insane ) but the later ones, especially Dark Bahamut and Dark Magus Sisters *shudder* are tough as nails unless your characters have maxed stats and abilities (auto-life and other skills are essential).
My ex beat them all but she had 255 stats on everyone (Cactuar King trick helps...) and around 200 hours of gameplay (not nearly as many of those hours were spent on blitzball as mine).
All in all; it'll take more time than you probably want to invest imo and it'll be bitch completing it!

FFX PAL is definitely worth it and an improvement over the normal version. What's not yet been mentioned that the international version also includes new skills. 1 of them is called Quick Pockets which will reduce the turn speed of accessing your Items inventory. I forgot about the other one.

@KylieDog: I don't know if it's because you're more hardcore or if it's a way to say sorry for releasing the game months after everywhere else :P

As for people for talk about grinding... well I love it so it's plus for the PAL version. My FFX file has more than 100 hours of playtime (no time at all in Blitzball because it's soooo boring) and for time to time I boot it up just to boost up my characters and gear a bit more. Most of my characters have a power leveling weapon and a auto-haste, auto-phoenix down, auto-protect armor.
