The following European teams qualified today for WC 2010: Denmark, Germany, Italy, Serbia (Netherlands, England, Spain were already qualified before).
Almost directly qualified: Switzerland (only 1 point needed from last game).
Either Slowakia or Slovenia will be the 9th and last EURO team to directly qualify.
The following EURO teams are already qualified for relegation games to WC 2010:
Russia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, France, Ireland.
The following teams will most probably qualify for relegation games:
Ukraine, Portugal, Greece (and Slowakia or Slovenia)
- Sweden dropped the ball today and opened the door for Portugal to easily secure place 2 with their last game next Wednesday vs. Malta. We will see C. Ronaldo at WC unfortunately, but at least I can say that I'm happy for Portugal as a country.
- Turkey is out, which is the biggest negative surprise of the European qualification.
- Bosnia was by far the biggest positive surprise of the European qualifyings so far. Impressive team. I hope they win their relegation matches.
- Also: Denmark winning their group is quite unexpected (more unexpected than Switzerland).
Africa: Ivory Coast qualified today (Ghana and of course South Africa were already qualified).
South America: Chile qualfied today as 3rd team (Brasil and Paraguay were already qualified).
Final match for last direct qualifying place 4 will be next Wednesday in Montevideo: current 5th vs current 4th, URU vs. ARG.
