Forums - Nintendo - Quest to Conquer My NES collection

This thread is to keep track of my goal to beat all my NES games. I've beaten a lot of these as a child, but I haven't played my NES in months, and I haven't played it with serious vigor in years. So, I plan to beat all 77 games, or make it as far as I can in each game, and take a photo of ending screen.

Currently Playing:

Super Mario Bros/Duckhunt

==========
Day 1
==========
Today I plan on beating Super Mario Bros 1-3, Wrecking Crew, and Marios Time Machine.

I will also see how far I can make it in Donkey Kong Classics.

you will never beat Top Gun if its as bad as I remember.

Top Gun sucks. Especially landing on the aircraft carriers.

good luck with blaster master. that game was hard.

I really want to start collecting NES and SNES games for fun. I miss those old carts.

There's certain games you can't 'beat'. As wel, there's certain games that are either near impossible without codes or just downright frustrating and require hours upon hours of using infinite continues or repetitive dying to find the right way to beat bosses/path/way to get over a ledge (see Angry Video Game Nerd for a good example).

I too am an avid fan of old NES games, but you do have to realize that among the many good games, there were 50 bad ones to back it up. Never has there been a bigger system with more shovelware. The SNES PS2 and DS can never compare.

On your list, the best games I can see are:

Dragon Warrior
A Boy and his Blob
Bubble Bobble (Cannot Beat)
Castlevania (May I suggest finding a copy of Castlevania III)
Double Dragon II
Duck Hunt
Hogans Alley (Cannot beat)
Kirby's Adventure
Ninja Gaiden
Rad Racer
Super Mario Bros 1-3
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game
Tetris (Cannot Beat except B-Type)
Legend of Zelda
Legend of Zelda II (though horribly frustrating and takes many continues in its own right)

Six upcoming games you should look into:

I wish I hadn't gotten rid of my SNES and N64 games. I got all these NES games free, but I had to buy SNES and N64 games with my own money when I was a kid, so I resold them to buy more games. :(

Beat is a subjective term. The games will be beat when I've think I've gone as far as humanly possible. I know some games are impossibly hard, for those games which I cannot possibly beat without thousands of hours of dying over and over, I may rub my magic lamp and bring out:

But this is a last resort.

Out of the games you've listed I've beat the following. Some of them you are going to have an incredibly hard time beating, so good luck.

Personally, I'd start with the Marios, Bubble Bobble, Zeldas, and TMNTs.

Bad Dudes
Balloon Fight
Bubble Bobble
Castle Vania
Double Dragon
Donkey Kong Classics
DR Mario
Duck Hunt
Hogans Alley
Ice Climber
Joust
Kirbys Adventure
Marios Time Machine
Marble Madness
Rampage
RC Pro Am
Rescue Rangers
Super Mario Bros
Super Mario Bros 2
Super Mario Bros 3
Super Jeopardy
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The Goonies II
Tetris
The Legend of Zelda
Zelda II: Adventure of Link
