Forums - Sony - Valkyria Chronicles 2 lamentation thread...also is this bad for PS3?

According to vgc:
ps3 rpg software unit sales outside japan: 3,12 M
psp rpg software unit sales outside japan: 6,54 M

ps3 rpg software unit sales in japan: 1,20 M
psp rpg software unit sales in japan: 11,68 M

So, for every ps3 rpg game sold OUTSIDE japan, 2 psp rpg games are sold.
And for every ps3 rpg game sold IN japan, 10 psp rpg games are sold.

These numbers give you a clear idea of where rpg fans reside.

If you add these:
-jrpg (or s-jrpg if you like) are not selling really well in hd consoles
-jrpg are selling well in ds/psp
-psp is a great machine to play for many consumers
-there are lots of ps3/psp owners
-vc2 will probably be a spin-off of vc1 (a port with new missions and slight new plot but no real new mechanics and/or features).
-Production cost of vc2 will be much lower than that of vc.

If vc2 delivers i think the most probable effect will be the broadening of it's audience, reinforcing possibilities of a true sequel on ps3.

So, in my opinion VC2 for PSP can be very good for PS3 or for hd consoles in general if becoming multi.

Now everybody go buy this little beauty!!!

1) The PSP has been out longer
2) The PS3 has had how many major RPG's compared to the PSP?
3) Another VC for PS3 wouldn't be expensive at all. They already have the engine which they built from scratch for VC1.
4) Why move to PSP and take a risk when you know the fanbase is already there for PS3?

That's what i believe as well. They created and then alienated there fanbase of the series. The consumers who supported them and pretty much advertised there product for them.  There was no ads, no tv commercials. It was all word of mouth on internet forums to support this game.

Wise decision by SEGA, I salute them.

I hope it's not the same team doing it this time....because I want my SKIES OF ARCADIA 2!
But I hope the best of luck to this game since I love sega and want all of their games to do great!

Same team, same producer.

Honestly i'm happy it's on the PSP. More likely to get a VC3 this way... they must of been disapointed by something related to the PS3 game for the move.  So if PSP gets us a sequel kickass.

The price cut and fan content both really drove sales.

So at a cheaper price and more popular device hopefully it'll sell more.

In my mind there isn't anything lost by moving it to PSP.

The only thing I wonder is how they are going to tweak the gameplay to allow multiplayer. It'd just be broken with the current system.

Since I wasn't expecting a sequal at all to this fantastic game, I'm just about over the moon that it exist, the small twinge of disappointment is smashed by overwhelming joy.

Well said!

And by-god if they made a 2, a 3 and atleast ONE spon off will make it to PS3, hopfully exclusive, Valkyria belongs to PlayStation IMO, and should not step ground on 360, Wii or DS.

If all of the above happens, which it has a good chance of since MS shunned the original Valkyria, then im one happy VC fan. :D

Why?  Statements like that just make you sound like a fanboy.

In reality people who are fans of the game should want games to go to the systems where they will do the best.  That way they flourish and you see more games from that producer and more games from that series.

I have always hated handhelds for some reason, I tried one that I almost liked when I was a kid, an Atari Lynx. Its an inferior experience to me and I liken it to playing games on a mobile phone (which I never do either).

So do i... i'm really digging the PSP though.  Apparently with an HD TV you can plug it into your TV and play it on a screen too.  So it'd basically be like playing a console.

pfft, yeah im a fanboy, of Valkyria Chronicles.

I think of VC as 360 fans think of Gears of War or Nintendo Fans think of Zelda.

Hows that bad? I began playing VC on PlayStation and thats where i want it to stay, but if it continues the series as a big franchise for that sake (meainging MANY spin-offs and numberd to atleast 4 or 5) then i wouldn't mind since it would mean more money for Sega and more VC for Us the gamers.

But at this rate, PlayStation only, 360 has LO, Wii has Tale of Symp, and PS3 has Valkyria, (Theres alot more but these are the exclusives alot of people talk about so no need to mention the others.) get my drift?
