Forums - Gaming - You were a console gamer from the late 80's till 1994, and then...

If I was frozen in time since 1994 that means i'd have the mind of an 11 year.  I'd probably have the opinion that games got 50x more awesome while I was asleep.  11 year olds don't have the most discerning tastes and anyone suggesting that their 11 year old self was a games connoisseur is only fooling themselves.

As far as Sega going under... I wouldn't care.  I had a Genesis but I wasn't a fanboy.  Plus, Sega still makes games.  I like the daytime levels of Sonic Unleashed so if I could have played that directly after Sonic & Knuckles, I would have gone insane.  If you showed me Sonic's Ultimate Genesis collection and told me that it was only $30, i'd have said that them stepping out of the console game was the best move in the world.

Why are the prices of games so high

I remember games costing about $70 USD back in the mid nineties.

Haha, I read that post and was like, "clearly this guy wasn't around for the 8-bit or 16-bit era."  Games used to be brutally expensive.  People complaining now didn't start gaming until the playstation era... and even then they probably didn't own a N64.  I remember buying Conker's Bad Fur Day on "sale" for $50.  N64 games came out at current gen prices or higher.

Damn right. I remember picking up Pokemon Stadium for $80. Them was the days.

That hasn't changed either.

I actually lived this fantasy (except the freezing part )....

I stopped gaming in the early 90's because I couldn't afford it... I bought a PS2 in the early 2000's but didn't have time to play it really, same with the first XBox, and Gamecube...

I came back with MS 360, Sony PS3, and Nintendo Wii...

Gaming has changed a lot since then... RPGs now are now action filled... Graphics are way better then the blocks... Sound is amazing... AI has improved with enemies. Controllers got way more complex. Achievements and trophies track accomplishments in games. Online multiplayer has changed the game dramatically. I had only heard about FPS. And platformers went 3D...

Well for one thing, the industry is a lot bigger now than it was before so that's a plus.
But I would also be thinking, WTF happened to my beloved platformer genre :'(

I would sell all my bonds and buy xbox and ps3 plus a new alienware laptop :D

I'd be amazed at 3D gaming and great graphics, but really sad how easy the games are to beat.
