Yeah, its failure kinda surprised me.

Now lets see if it has the necessary legs to beat The Dark Knight ($1 billion). It'll probably top it but who knows...
Man, I never expected it to break the the record for best midnight opening ever in the US. It has better reviews than Transformers 2, and that did $16 million at midnight. I'm not a huge Potter fan, but it would be cool to see one shatter records and make a shitload of money, as all the rest never did spectacular in the theatres.

To Tederiscool,
I know they did great in the theatres, but they never did outstanding, at least in the U.S. I probably should look at more worldwide data. But I have trouble comparing data from different countries because the currency is so different with everyone.

Look at the highest grossing movies of all time. Most of them made the majority of their money overseas. Domestic box office isn't as divine as it used to be. The Harry Potter movies has done incredibly, and it's the highest grossing film series of all time.
Its impossible to tell what a movie's lifetime gross is based on midnight showings for the first day.. we'll know soon.
And there was me thinking that we were in a time of economic depression. LOL

Oh you have no idea how bad it can be over here. I've seen people choose to go to the movie theatre over lunch >.< It's all pick and choose. Unless they like to be in debt, of course.
