Forums - General - Is it OK to cite religion as a reason to allow changes in the government?

It's hard to state separation of church and state, when you have neo-cons like McCain stating that the US is a christian nation, and basing much of their political views on the beliefs of the religious right.

I hate religion in general, and believe the government should be run with no religious influence at all.

George Carlin once said "those two institutions fuck us enough on their own, can you imagine what they would do together?"

You don't have to imagine it, just read a history book about medieval Europe.

Umm... As long as we are talking about democracy, it doesn't matter why people want something, only what people want.

I guess that wasn't what you were after.

No he didn't. But that's what it's about. If a democratically elected candidate is driving a matter, it must be what people have wanted, else he wouldn't have been elected.

UK is parlamentaric monarchy (if i used the right words).

I agree that rights should belong to all. I don't believe in Gay rights, Woman rights, and all that.

They are just rights. Everyone should have them equally, if your black, gay, woman, whatever.
